i -t fi' J n -s 1 .n September Kicks ff School Year With Pienies, Football Pep Rallies Beginning the school year, the annual Hi-Lite picnic provided an opportunity tor treshman girls to become acquainted with their Hi-Lite big sisters. You've Got a Friend week, climaxed by a dance tollowing the Lake Highlands tootball game. welcomed treshmen to high school lite. Voted triendliest underclassmen, Sha Sha Razzeto. Martin Peck, Caroline Shannon. David Burgher, Paige Rippey, and John Hawkins received the You've Got a Friend award. Longer hair tor boys and coordinated pantsuits became a non-controversial sight in the halls because ot a long-awaited dress code revision. Girls' and boys' separate committees dratted changes which gained tinal approval trom Mr. l-lart. Back to School Night gave parents much the same experience in general contu- sion as treshmen had encountered upon their introduction to high school. Gathering tirst in the auditorium, visitors relaxed to renditions ot current tunes by the Lads and Lassies. Schedules distributed to each parent along with helptul student directions en- abled parents to tollow a schedule ot classes seven minutes in length with tive- rninute passing periods. Asian Studies and Descriptive Astrono- my, new courses this year. added variety to the curriculum and ottered additional learn- ing experiences. Asian Studies tocused on the culture and humanity ot the Asian con- tinent. The new Astronomy course utilized the planetarium in studying star evolution con- stellations, relativity, cosmology, light, and the general make-up ot the universe. Musical organizations such as the band, Lassies, orchestra, Lads and Lassies, and Highlandaires choirs tuned up tor the school year with picnics and a roller-skating party welcoming new members.
