Checking pupils in and out and keeping at- tendance records is a full-time job. Students who arrive late or leave early must be recorded by the attendance secretary. Where was Pansy Cornpone on October 20, 1931? may not be an actual question asked of the secretaries in the principa1's office, but as keepers of the permanent records they could probably answer similar questions in addition to performing numerous other duties. Administering first aid to cut fingers and giving eye tests are some of the duties performed by the Highland Park nurse. Treating the aches and pains of 1200 students is her daily respon- sibility. Art students at Hi Park can be found dabhling in water colors or making huge murals to hang in the halls. The two-dimensional art of the art classes becomes three-dimensional in the metal shop Where everything from knives to elaborate wrought-iron grill work is made from hard metal. I For those whogdo not like to work with any- thing as unwieldy as metal, Hi Park has a well- equipped woodshop. jewel boxes, water skiis, and gun chests are just a few of the many popu- lar items that students turn out each year in the woodworking classes. Almost any, hour of the day the steady drone of the typewriters can be heard as students prac- tice to improve their speed and accuracy in an effort to become' expert typists. just down the hall from the typing room is a room where one can hear pupils murmuring account numbers and percentages. Business math students are trying hard to improve their minds for the everyday mathematical world of tomorrow.
