Grapuates of Highland Park High School carry on a proud tradition. Rea- sons for both pride and tradition may be found in the community which provides our support and our students. Since 1922 this high school has served the people who make their homes in Highland Park and University Park because they wish to enjoy living in a community of well-educated persons. The United States cen- sus figures show, incidentally, that these two small cities are among the top eight best-educated communities in the nation. In a recent school survey the parents of 70 percent of the student body were found to have some college education. The jobs of four out of five of the fathers are professional, managerial, or executive. Because this community believes in the value of education, the boys and girls of Highland Park School expect to make the most of their studies in high school and beyond. Last year 360 out of 371, 97 percent of the graduating seniors, en- rolled in 17 colleges in Texas, 52 in other states. Most of these collegians over the years reflect credit on their school. At Southern Methodist University last spring, for instance, six of the 18 persons elected to Phi Beta Kappa were Highland Park graduates. Success stories from campuses across the nation inspire present High- landers to work hard and prepare themselves to do a good job too. Teachers at Highland Park are an experienced group of highly professional people. Three out of four have M.A. degrees. It is a challenge to this faculty to provide top-notch learning experiences for the students in this school, both in the class room and in the various activities. Be- cause these boys and girls may be expected to become leaders tomorrow as their parents are today, it is of the utmost importance to help each one achieve his very best potential in academic work and in citizenship. That best is very good indeed. And our country these days can be satisfied with nothing less. MARGARET WASSON Director of Instruction Highland Park Schools Page Thirteen
