l 1 June, 1967 Dear Seniors, Your days as a high school student are fast approaching an end. In retrospect, I hope all of you can say, These have been good days. I shall always cherish themf, If, during your high school years, you have learned the important meaning of self-reliance, integrity, perse- verance, self respect, and respect for others, you will find yourself blessed with a rudimentary understanding of some of the major elements that determine one's success in life. The values you hold as a young adult will form the basis of your life. It is important that you pause at this crucial time to ask yourself if your present values are worthy of your highest instincts and goals. We have appreciated the opportunity to work with you and for you. We do not consider that our work is done when you leave us. We will continue to support and en- courage you to the level of our ability. Cordially yours, Kenneth L. MacKenzie Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth L. Dr. Melvin L. Michaels Principal :5 - LFOS Mr. ustin E. Lepine Assistant Principal To the Class of 1967 Dear Graduates: I envy you. The world you are about to enter will extend millions of miles beyond the reaches your parents knew. The wealth of the oceans will be yours to harvest in ways unknown today. Knowl- edge in every held will be so increased as to stun the imagination and produce radical changes in your lives. All this superabun- dance will be yours to take and enjoy in the years following your graduation. For all this I envy you. The world unfortunately has a pendulum quality. What it gives in bounty it takes away in problems. The world now is filled with far too many unsolved problems, unfortunate people, and inhu- man relationships. Your parents, lives have been filled with peo- ple fearing people and nations opposing nations. All this tragical- ly might possibly be yours to endure also. What I wish for you is that the education you have received in your high school might be a beginning to help you gain all the wonderful riches of your world. At the same time I fervently hope that you will be able to develop the powers to alleviate, or if pos- sible, eliminate the problems, the suspicions and the hatreds that exist inside ourselves, inside other people, and inside nations. I wish you happiness, good health, peace, and contentment for all the years following your graduation. Yours truly, Melvin L. Michaels Principal To the Class of 1967: Each year as classes reach graduation you wonder what the fu- ture will bring both for them and for future students of Highland Park High School. The complexities of our modern world continue to astound me. Educational advances continue to appear at unbelievable rates. May you keep your balance and enjoy the fruits of your hard work for many years to come. ' The future can be a wonderful one if you continue to apply your- selves and build solid character, honesty, reliability, and loyalty. May the years ahead be inspiring, challenging, and successful. Sincerely, Austin E. Lepine Assistant Principal 6
