Lepine Assistant Principal HIGHLAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLAND PARK, NEW JERSEY 06904 na Mstvw L MIcm-.sts MR ,USUN E LEPWE mmurwrt .femur mmm-It December 16 , 1965 Dear Members of the Class of 1966: Writing a letter that may be read twenty-five and more years from now is not easy. What will future society be like? What will you remember of your high school many, many years from now? what kind of life will you have then? When 1 think about your future, I am filled with many fervent hopes and alarming fears. I don't want to write about the fearsg let me just concentrate on the hopes -- three in particular. K The first is educational. I am sure you know now that the Staff of the high school has worked hard to give you the best possible education. Don't misconstrue this education to be simply a trunkful of facts mentally stored away until needed, unless forgotten. Such an education would be totally inadequate to last twenty-five or more years. What we have tried to do, and perhaps accomplished in some small degree, was to develop a love of learning, a desire to know, and a endeavor for improvement of life, not for personal gain but for service to others. Hopefully, the love is unendingg the desire, consumingg and the endeavor, persistent. The second is sentimental. All through the years I hope you will keep a warm and close attachment to your high school. You will come to realize in time that it was the place where you spent four of the most idealistic and practical, altruistic and selfish, secure and insecure, happiest and saddest years of your life. Those who taught you have a common bond with you over the long stretch of years, and they will always have thisf fond regard for you. The third is personal, I pray you will always enjoy sound health, 'YH Y V si-reizectf honor, 'Eid digrliiij In essenceg I whinlelteartedly-des'lre fo'T' you a satisfying life. God bless you and best wishes. Yours truly, Melvin L. Michaels Principal HIGHLAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLAND PARK NEW JERSEV ossoa MR. Young people today are faced with tremendous pressure and problems in planning their future. Most of you will continue your education. Some of you will juim the armed services in these rruubiea times and others will begin the job of earning a livilihood for yourselves and your future families. To all of you I wish the best possible success and hope you may enjoy many fruitful years of usefulness and happiness. S incerely , Austin E. Lepine A . , . AEMOW ssistant Principal 4-

Kenneth L. MacKenzie, Superintendent of Schools HIGHLAND PARK PUBLIC SCHOOLS KENNETH L. MACKENZIE, SUPERINTENDENT HIGHLAND PARK, N, J. 05904 June, 1966 Dear Seniors, Each year as I reflect upon a brief, parting message to you, my thoughts have a tendency to turn inward in search of an answer to the question, Have we done all that could reasonably be expected of us to help you build the proper foundation for your future? I skip through memories of the rich experiences that 1 know the Highland Park community has afforded you and 1 am well pleased with the mental pictures I recall. But, as the vision of your years of school experience flash by in kaleidoscopic fashion, I note also some of the frustrations, disappointments, and disillusionments that have attacked your youthful optimism along the way. If we could have spared you from the negative elements that may have plagued you, what effect would this have had on your lives '? I think it is pretty obvious that such overprotection would have been misdirected since one of the real joys of living is realized as one overcomes adversity. If we had succumbed to the rather common, human desire to make your life forever pleasant and devoid of problems we would have failed you. Most people want to grow in wisdom and grace. Life offers to all the opportunities to do so. The reasonable attainment of the goals is limited only by one's individual commitment. We want your lives to be richer and fuller than ours has been. We stand ready to help you in any way we can. Cordially, qw Kenneth L. MacKenzi Superintendent of Schools Roy Loux, Business Manager 5 1
