The 1954 track season started on the ninth of March with 65 candidates ready to go for the first turnout. Of these men approximately 50 made up the varsity squad with the remainder taking on B squad duties. A fine team spirit was shown throughout the season. At Wapato the fol- lowing week, Highland lost 51-50 in a meet in which the pole vault event was left out, therefore keeping the Scotties from gaining any more points. In the final meet Highland downed three of the valley schools to win a four way meet at Selah ac- cumulating 61 points. The other three teams were Naches, Toppenish and Selah. TENNIS Left to right: james Howell Bill Hintze. Kneeling, left to right: Jean Snipes, Melba Rademacher, Mar- ilyn Whiteside. Standing: Marlana Kroger, Bar- bara Beffa, Shirley Hinkle, Aleene Anderson. Although the 1954 tennis team did not win very many of its matches, it is hoped it gained some invaluable experience. In spite of some very strong valley competition this year, the team at all times exhibited good sportsmanship and a fine competitive spirit. Bob Hintze and Barbara Beffa were elected honorary captains. With Ken Dueker, jean Snipes, Bob and Barbara re- turning, the team should give a good account of itself next year. 7 Ken Dueker, David Howerton,
