The all-around gymnast competes in four areas , vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Jodi Mazzocco is Highland’s top senior all-around gymnast. Another outstanding senior is Michelle Fletcher, she is a specialist on the vault. Linda Haseltine. also a senior, specializes on vault and balance beam. Coach Linder said. The seniors are all top specialists in their field and we need them all.” Unfortunately the team has been plagued by injury all through the year including sprained ankles and wrists. The scoring system is gymnastics is complicated. Six girls compete in the areas but only the top five girls scoring the highest are added together for a team score. Judges score the girls on a scale of I -10. 10 being the best with only two judges working each area. The toughest competition for the team this season is Northglenn according to Coach Linder.  With all the changing faces around Highland this year, you probably wouldn't be too surprised to hear that the boy's swimming team has a new coach this year. Frank Orten. who just graduated from C.U. in January now holds a full-time job while coaching in the evening. The boys have had to adjust to later practices instead of practicing right after school. Although the coach's job inconveniences the guys a little, they really like him and are glad to have him aboard. TOP: Jimmy Madsen gives a big smile before his dive.
