Leo 5 DIA B USHO Q REI G OVER H OIWE COMI G Diana, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Lewis Scott, R if 1 Marengo, Ohio, reigned over a very damp homecoming scene. She is active in Honor Society, F.B.L.A. and has been a Varsity cheerleader. The Homecoming was wet and muddy but, the queen and the court made the evening brighten up and sparkle a bit. The Seniors put in a lot of time and help to make this a memorable evening, and we think everyone who attended will agree, it was just that. The queen and her attendants rode in the cer- emonial parade. Last year's queen, Carolyn Kearns Hollingsworth, placed the crown upon the head of Queen Diana. Our colorful marching band faithfully performed despite the steady downpour. It takes more than rain to dampen the spirits of our student body and friends. The lively cheerleaders kept the festive feeling of homecoming alive all during the game. Long remembered will be the delicious dinner prepared by the Junior mothers and served by the underclassmen. Cherished in the pages of our memories will always be the Fountain Lounge. Under the deep blue sky sparkling with millions of stars, is the fountain. A fountain with glistening driplets of water that transform the pool below into dancing ripples. Ripples that hold the hopes, dreams, memories, and wishes of the guests. Adding to this romantic atmosphere is the quiet music of the Wesley Allyn Quintet. Down the street from the Lounge is the 3 Coin Cafe. Here a couple can rest weary feet and drink a toast over candlelight to one's date. Formed by Mrs. Ledford, head of the Music Department, this club added a great deal to the first annual operetta. The operetta, Sweet Anne Page, was a big success, and plans for another musical are being dreamed about by all musically talented students. The Glee Club also presented many programs throughout the school year much to the en- joyment of the Highland student body. The formation of this club was met with en- thusiasm, and qualifications for membership were high. Keen competition, and fun made this club one of the highlights of the school year. 52 Jeanette, Connie, Pam and Vick represent Highland Display made by members, wins first place at the Convention. WEET ANNE PAGE This year the Music Department attempted a vari- ation in the usual musical activities, SWEET ANNE PAGE , an operetta, made this years' activities in music complete. Pretty little Anne Page, having been raised in an orphan's home, becomes the maid-of-all-work in a large summer boarding house, run by a stern and fault-finding Mrs. Tutwiller. Mrs. Tutwiller is a widow with a daughter, Jane, who is the same age as Anne. Jane wishes to become an actress but possesses none of the qualifications necessary. A large Opera Company stays at the boarding house while presenting an opera a few miles away. Wilton, the leading man, falls in love with Anne, much to the fury of Patricia Varon, an actress, who is also in love with Wilton. Anne, who has a sweet voice and all the qualities of an actress, finds a manuscript and becomes en- grossed in it. Zaza Belasco, an elderly actress who was once a great star, hears Anne and coaches her in the role. Varon gets angry and leaves the opera company at the last moment. Zaza presents Anne to the stage manager and convinces him to let Anne play the part. Anne went on stage and became a big success. Tom Webb, plays the role of Abner Todd. He is that cute type of boy that all the girls adore. s 57 Bob Hartwell, vocal soloist, sings Laura with band accompanying him. Joyce Puckett, senior band member, directs the band at Spring Concert.
