Members of the School Board are as follows: Seated, Mrs. Evelyn Brunskill, Clerk; Mr. Vermillion, Superintendent; and Mrs. Elsie Hummel. Standing, Mr. William Kelly, Mr. Robert Mr. Lewin O. Vermillion is superintendent of the Highland School District. In dealing with various people who have an interest in our school, Mr. Ver- million must be skilled as a diplomat. Acting as head-coordinator of the educational program he must manage transportation throughout the district and help the school board with budget planning. There are other fundamental departments work- ing together in the school, also. The cooks, custodial staff, office staff, and guidance counselors are these Mr. Andy Higgins and Mrs. Jean Myers Guidance Counselors Schmelzer, President; Mrs. Josephine Becks, Vice-President; and Mr. John Wiszt. people behind the scene. The custodial staff aids by cleaning, by making repairs, and by keeping the grounds in order. The cooks, besides the actual preparation of the meals, must serve and clean up afterwards. The staff is always trying to please the students and to pro- vide good-tasting, nourishing meals. The guidance counselors, as well as giving various tests and recording the results, advise students on their plans for the future. Mrs. Margaret South Librarian

As students prepare for the coming year, so do staff members. Their summer has been relaxing as well. We know that many have spent enjoyable vacations with their families and some have furthered their education, but all must soon get back in the swing of things. Classes must be planned, menus prepared, and the building cleaned and repaired — all before school begins. The secretaries are gathering together schedules, records and the countless other papers necessary to maintain a smooth-running school year. Upper Left: Mr. Eckart at work in the office.
