Highland High School Highland Illinois To The Graduates of Highland High School We are glad to dedicate this volume of the lris to our graduates Our school owes much to its graduates who determine the repu tation of that school When a student leaves school he is enther a good or bad but of adver tising for that school The part the graduate plays nn his com munity depends upon the training he has re ceived first in his home then in the school church and community His character has been molded by all of these agencies Each of the above agencies plays a part in the formation of hi character how much each plays varies with different individuals This dedication is in appreciation of our graduates for we believe that for the most part they have been a good bit of advertise ment for our school We also wish to thank them for the loyalty they have shown to our school and for the financial support which many of our graduates as well as other mem bers of our community have given to many of our undertakings especially this publication. Modern dancing,,a new form of art, is a means of ex- pressing an idea through the movement of the body. Girls who possess a great deal of rhythm feel a desire to create compositions through this me- dium. ' ' Throughout the year they give many dance pro- grams, such as the Spring Pro- gram, They also participated in the Dance Clinic at Granite City. The officers of this club are: Margie Schmidt, Pres.g Pat Foehmer, V-Pres., Marjorie lberg, Sec., Kay Klaus, Treas. B LLDDGS The Bulldogs completed the first half of their baseball season fairly successfully. The Bulldogs fin- ished second in the M. B. C. Confer- ence, due to the loss of the play-off game with Pocahontas. Ending the regular season tied for second place with five wins and one loss in the Conference, Highland and Poca- hontas agreed to play off the game in Greenville so as to give neither team the advantage of playing on their own diamond. The Bulldogs played a good game, but Pocahontas played a better one. ln non-conference games, the Bulldogs did not fare quite so well, winning two and losing two. The Bulldogs played Greenville twice, each winning one game. The Highland team lacked experience due to the large number of rookies on the team. This should, however, lead to a good team in the future, The increased number of players coming from the surrounding area is pointing to more competition for each position. This ultimately will produce better teams for l-l.H.S. Clog, .53 This page sponsored by: s-ln' ln -. . i Broadway Battery and Tire Service I--, I -l .. W1 4 9 3 'ic'-1: f A f , 'K . The Class of '52! lt's hard to' believe just twelve short years ago in l939, we were forty angelic first-graders studying about Jim and Judy and their dog, Tags. - ln second grade we were no longer new, and no longer angels. We did everything we could to harrass our teachers, and everybody called us the meanest kids in the school. ln Junior High, Miss Wenger tamed us down a bit but we nearly drove Mr. Kaeding and Mr. Bailey wild. Mr. Bailey threatened us with paddlings, essays, and being sent from class, but his frantic efforts to make us be good and quit argeein' with him only made us meaner. ln l948 we became Freshmen, the lowest form of human life. we bowed to the Seniors and obeyed their every comrnand. Our Sophomore year we had more confidence but still didn't amount to much. As Juniorswe gave the play Gangway For Ghosts and financed the prom Toyland with its tall wooden soldiers and its jack-in-the-box. , I This year we proudly, but a little sadly too, took our places as Seniors. We did many things which we had never done before and many things which we will never do again as a group. . Now we are ready to make our way in the world of adults.
