FCDREWCDRD When one travels to a new part of our great country one cannot fa1l to be 1mpressed w1th 1ts sheer s1ze The magmtude of the great c1t1es the sweep of our broad plarns the un bel1evable s1ze and complex1ty of some of the manufacturrng centers the tower1ng mountam ranges w1th the1r huge m1neral deposlts, the vast forests and countless waterways a these thmgs str1ke one as magmfmcent g1fts w1th whrch our country has been endowed As we stand 1n awe of these m1ghty phys1cal assets we are perhaps l1able to forget that a more mmportant endowment IS possessed by our own commumty and that endowment IS the pr1celess g1ft of 1ts youth, w1th all the1r phys1cal v1gor and mental f1re All countrles 1n then' tmmes of need and ours 1S no exceptlon have dxpped deeply 1nto the1r reservo1rs of youthful v1gor to supply the demands of the armed forces Many of our newest 1ndustr1al and sc1ent1f1c marvels are the products of the mental f1re of young men and women Unless we cher1sh, and properly tra1n the phys1cal and mental g1fts of our young men and women we shall be gu1lty of waste and neglect, Just as truly as mf we set f1re to our forests and perm1tted eros1on to remove our so1l To the proper use of th1s most 1mportant of our nat1ona.l assets our efforts should be slncerely bent 3
