L 0 Preface lt is difficult to believe that time has passed so quickly. and that we. the Class of Fl. are at the threshold of an entirely new sort of life. Before we begin on that long road ahead. let us pause and recall our four years at Highland High School. In a sense. as our theme points out. our high school days were spent in country style. XYc are fortunate to have had such a carefree and sheltered high school career. Away from the noisy. bustling city. we have cemented priceless friend- ships with other students and with our teachers. Perhaps the city has its ad- vantages. but here in Highland, there has been a marvelous closeness. a warm- ncss. that could NUI have occurred in a large city school. XYe should always remember this. and be proud of it. Now that we are leaving high school. we are saddened. There is much ahead of us. the road will be far from easy. and there will no longer be the sheltered wings of our school. We will have decisions to make-important ones. but now we will no longer have the friendly advice and understanding guidance of our teachers. .Xlany of us will take separate roads that perhaps may never cross again. Yet wc will have one thing in cominon-we will always have wonderful memories of our youth in Highland High School. These happy memories and the experience gained from carefree days will serve as an invaluable aid for us in solving the problems of the future. Before we leave. we wish to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to those people who have helped in preparing us to be better citizens in the world we are about to face. These people will make up an important part of the price- less memories that we will carry with us on our trip to successful adulthood. To serve as a reminder of these matchless days. we present the 1951 Echo , and we hope that it will bring many hours of happy reminiscence. Ifditor-In-Chief ,,....,-y K 7 Qf XM. Y Class History Returning to School in the fall of 1947 was not easy after a long leisurelv summer vacation. A lot of Freshmen found that a large central high school was very different from a small country school. .-Xt first this large institution seemed cold and unfriendly, but we soon found the boys and girls here were eager to become our friends. They too were strangers to this new routine but with a helping hand from our upperclassmen we soon became accustomed to it. VVe were represented on the Student Council by Dorothy Gasparini and john Phillips. The only social event of our freshman year was a very successful Freshman Party. Then suddenly we were Sophomores! XVe proudly showed off our knowledge by lending the new group of Freshmen a helping hand. VVe, as a class with newly acquired prestige, elected Albert Domanic as our president. Our student council representatives again were Dorothy and john. Once again our only social event of the year was the Sophomore Party which was enjoyed by all attending. XVith half our high school career over, we entered our junior year. This year for the first time our class was represented by four student council members, Dorothy, john, Gertrude Xlaroldt and Albert Domanic. Led by our president, Isabelle Saso, we planned the Hrst event of this year, the annual junior Play, O PROMISE ME, directed by Mr. Crowley and considered a huge success. We next received our class rings and proudly displayed them to the envy of all the underclassmen. ln Nlay we held the traditional junior Prom which was very well attended. All present had a very good time. As Seniors we selected Betty Peterson as our president. This year we again have four representatives on the Student Council, Dorothy, john, Isabelle Saso and Charles XVurster. Thus far we have had a very successful year. We hope we have set a good example as leaders in sports and other activities to guide others up the ladder of success. The 1951 ECHO is now in preparation and we would like to thank Miss Yanasco for giving so freely of her time to help us make it a success. The Senior Play, under the direction of Mr. Schwerdt, will soon start rehearsals and it promises to be as successful as our junior Play. XVe, the Class of 1951, would like to thank our parents, the school authorities., our teachers and all of the other people who have made it possible for us to attend this school and carry on our many activities here. We leave Highland High School with regret but with the anticipation of new worlds to conquer and the knowledge that these four years have prepared us well for the hard tasks ahead. plaza if I ya ,Z Us Llc rude 1 , - -x, 5-1.W' , A if-f1..g j',, - s ,. - Q., .
