.ws .ws dw FOREWORD LET US GO FORWARD THERE is so much yet to be done in spite of, and in some cases because of, the great technological accomplishments of the last 25 years. How far we are from filling the needs for modern equipment of the people of our own country without considering the mil- lions in other parts of the world! There is so much yet to be done in the field of medi- cine so that the great killers can be tracked down and eradicated. There is yet so much to be done in education, to bring to all people the enlightenment of civilization so that they may learn to live together in peace and harmony. In this field of human relations, where understanding, sympathy and good will is needed more than ever today, there is yet so much to be done. The job is here and you are the hope of civilization. A. HERBERT CAMPBELL l 3 1

PREFACE wwe -.-We As we, the class of '48, approach Commencement Day, we pause in our extensive activities to reflect for a mo- ment or two upon the real meaning of Commencement. We look back over the many happy days we have spent at Highland High School and are saddened by the pros- pects of leaving our Alma Mater. It is hard for us to comprehend the great task which lies before us as we step out over the chasm of time. In our care lies the fate of the United States of America for we are the future voters and perhaps statesmen of our country. Here in school we have been trained to be clear thinking and fairly in- telligent people and so we are ready to take our place in life. We have published this book so that, as time goes by, it may help us to recall the happy carefree days of our lives in Highland High. We, therefore, wish to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the patient and understanding people who have helped us achieve our goals. Editor-in-Chief DOROTHY BECKVERMIT V11
