ONE STEP AT A TIME, BUT ALWAYS FORWARD In September N33 the Freshmen Constructron Corporatron of Hrghland Hrgh School was organrzed At our first meetrng we elected a Board of Drrectors to manage our affans Those who could not appear 1n person voted by proxy and the results were as follows James Rrchards Presrdent Elarne Weston Sec retary and Treasurer Those who were not elected on the board became promment stockholders Of course we needed supervisors and thus the 1rres1st1ble Mr Gaffney and the ex er patrent Mrs Faust performed the1r dutres by managrng our typrcal Fresh men Class Imagrne how delrghted we were when we made our first contract Our Presrdent agreed wrth Mr Campbell that we the Class of 37 would work five and one half hours a day for five days a week and the contract would be ful filled wrthrn four years We all real1zed that the nature of our busrness necessr tated 1nd1v1dual work o wrth th1s rn mmd we set forth bravely For the remarnder of our first year we more or less turned towards the so cral srde of lrfe We gave two partres whrch certarnly were successful and whrch conv1nced us that many of the class possessed talent wh1ch would greatly rnflu ence our future In September 1934 we returned to contmue our unfinrshed task Many of the stockholders deserted us by Jomrng other compan1es and eventually broke therr terms rn the contract Th1S penalrzed the remalnrng ones by forcrng us to work harder We couldnt afford to farl now for our corporatron was 1ust be grnnrng to be recognrzed So onward we went We recerved much support from M1ss Taylor Mrss Columbe and Mr Crowley who d1rected us through that year s actrvrtres Frank LaFalce replaced James Rrchards as class Presrdent and Franc1s Rheal was elected V1ce Presrdent Our Jun1or year' How trme flres' Just one more year and our work wrll be completed Wrth that 1nsp1rat1on we drllgently resumed our work wrth Mrss Cook and Mr Wrnchester as advrsors Frank La Falce was re elected Presrdent Jane Ch1llas became Secretary and Kate Varl the Treasurer For the last half of the year George Lane acted as class Pres1dent Our corporatron had much busrness to attend to th1s term We selected our class rrngs and recerved them after Chr1stmas We gave a cake sale whrch helped to approprrate some money for the Jun1or Prom The Senrors of that year were convrnced that they wouldn t have a prom but we couldn t deny them that event so we hast1ly made plans for the dance Needless to say rt was quxte an affarr wrth 1ts southern atmos phere and mus1c wh1ch was put over rn Roger Baer s rnrmrtable style The Sen1or Constructron Corporatron was greatly reduced rn srze because a great number of Mrlton students were forced to Jorn another school It was the good fortune of four to be able to return to help carry on and take the place of those who left But strll we d1d not weaken our goal was wrthrn close reach In fact we were greatly strengthened through the ard of Mrss Wrllrams our class advrsor I don t have to rntr oduce her for I m sure everyone became acquarnted wrth her through her efforts rn makrng our class achreve 1ts goal We were well supported by havmg Jane Ch1llas as Presrdent George Lane as V1ce Pres1dent Marlon Deyo as Secretary and Dorothy Roosa as Treasurer Our aCt1V1tlBS were many 1nclud1ng the B1ngo and Bunco Party and the Spaghettr Supper wh1ch went over w1th a bang Then came the great event Dollars to Doughnuts our Senror Play The productron was well grven and reflected cred1t on the members of the cast and the1r coaches The play added manv dollars but no doughnuts to the treasury Many thanks to all who made our class a success And though we may roam north south east or west We shall always remember each one of our clan And the precrous school days spent rn Hrghland Margaret Caffarella 4215 ll Il . ,' . .
