Homecoming Door Decorated for Hornet Da Barbara Houlr, escorted by Doug Mccurdy, receives the traditional rose from Court member Gail Bandoni. Highland High School students voted Friday, September 23 to choose the members of the Homecoming Court from the thirty- five senior candidates. The candidates were required to have at least a Cv average and to have participated in two activities. They were permitted to put up one poster, with or without picture, in the halls and one banner in the gym. At a second assembly, Friday, September 30, the fifteen candi- dates elected to the court were again presented and students were asked to vote for three girls. In past years, before Highland obtained voting machines, students voted for only one girl. Seniors, headed by Phyllis Myers, were in charge of the dec- orations for the gymnasium for the Coronation Assembly. Houk, Fred Nassif accom- Doug McCurdy escorted Barbara panied jennifer McDonalell and Dean Stone escorted Debbie Winkler up the Yellow Brick Road' to their thrones. Along the road were the 12 members of the Court who sat in an enchanted poppy field. The mixed ensemble, directed by Mr. Arthur Loy, performed for the Queen and her attendants. Phyllis Myers and Bruce Paster- nak were the Masters of Ceremony. During the Coronation Assembly gifts from each of Highland's classes and the Student Council were presented to the Queen and Princesses. She was also honored by other Albuquerque High Schools with traditional gifts. In the library, following the assembly, a reception was held by the Student Council for the Queen and her 'court and their par- ents and guests. Emerald City was the setting for the Hornet Day Dance pre- sented by the junior Class in the school cafeteria. A path to Queen Barbara's throne, a gondola underneath a huge balloon, was clearly marked by the Yellow Brick Road . Munchkins, little figures from the land of Oz, lined the walls with fields of poppies. Live munchkins, the Highland Students, danced to the music of Lindy and the La'Velles. Sophomores Jane Murphy, Linda Roberts Joanne Britton and Shirley decorate their homeroom door for homecoming 5. I
