Always a true friend to us and ready to render her help when needed. Miss Maxwell has charge of all our records both academic and attendance. Mr. John Milne has indeed proven himself to be a true friend of Highland by his wise lead- ership and progressive school policies. We think he is an ideal Superintendent of Schools. Under the intelligent guidance of our able school board, Highland has advanced far in the past three years. Shown here are the members of the school board. Seated are: Danny McPher- son, Sticker Thome, Mrs. A. H. Nicolai, and [ohn Milne. Standing are: Bob Elder, John Varney, and S. Y. Jackson, president. D. She is just away With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand. She has wandered into an unknown land. And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since she lingers there. And you— oh, you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return. Think of her faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of her still as the same. I say. She is not dead— she is just away. James Whitcomb Riley. JERRY SCRUGGS The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters; He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name ' s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me; Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. The officers of the Junior class are: Mary Clare Stiles, Treasurer; Corky Morris, President; Billy Wagner, Sec- retary; Nancy Burke, Vice President. Under the capable leadership of their class officers, the Junior class of Highland High has had an eventful and successful year. They have sponsored three of our biggest and most popular dances— Hallowe ' en was the tacky dance, the beautiful Winter Wonderland Christmas formal, and last but not least the Junior-Senior Prom, honoring the class of ' 52. The Junior class, one of the best we ' ve ever had, is respected by both upper and lower classmen. Highland ' s class of ' 54 had able leadership this year in the form of their class officers. The Sophs inaugurated an all-day Winter Carnival which was held at La Madera, and topped it off with a Snow-Ball dance in the evening. Class spon- sored assemblies, dances, and outings rounded off the year for the Sophomores. To give all class members a voice in activities, the officers organized a Sophomore Senate from which representatives take ideas back to their classes.
