Something new has been added this year. They now boast a completely furnished hospital on the premises with a well trained doctor on duty at all times. This doctor is Daniel Knothe. General Benjamin Barrett, of West Point, reports that this year's graduating class includes Lt. james Brock, Lt. lra Ravel, and Lt. jimmy Wilson, all of Albuquerque. Gary Beals is the editor of LIFE, at least that is what he told me when l saw him selling them on the corner of First and Central. Larry Beede and Chalon Carnahan are both doing well as apprentices to Dr. Lincoln LaPaz, the noted astronomer at the University. Shorty Bennett and Clark Schaffner are in the manufacturing business in Chicago. They are found- ers ol' the Left-handed Fountain Pen Co. Duane Benton is the matinee idol of millions ol' theater-goers the world over. To date, he is best known for his work on the stage production of the novel, The Mert Mick Murders, written by the Nobel Prize winner, Randall Martin. The famous trio of Parry Larsen, Bob Blagg and George Snelson are playing pro-hockey. They have just returned to the U. S. from Europe, where they have been playing exhibition games. jimmy Breen, the wold's undisputed golf champion, is rumored to be head over heels in love with that Hollywood socialite, jan Loveland. However, Jan seems to like a certain West Pointer that graduates this year. jack Mulcahy is now running an escort bureau. He has dates for the male sex, dates for the female sex, and dates for the insects. David Bruce, the fastest man alive and Big Ed Goff are running on the Independent ticket to overthrow the stronghold that Ronnie Ferreri has held on the U. S. since he had Bill Kunkel impeached for various and sundry reasons. After having been thrown out of every city in the U. S. A., the B. O. Trio, jake Rampton, Gus Evans, and Gart Pendx, have volunteered to take the experi- mental trip to Mars to try to establish radio contact with jupiter. lf they succeed, the U. S. Government has promised them a radio station all to themselves. Rick Sneddon is expected to go along with the B. O. Trio to aid them in any way possible. He will prob- ably be their engineer as Mr. Hopperton has been grooming him since l950. Dean Goddard, taking the place of Petrillo, will undoubtedly insist that the four space adventurers form a union so as to get more dues for his own union. From the dark continent of Africa comes the com- mumque from Doctor jim Ford and his assistant, Norman Ribble. The message says, quote: Help! Un- quote. The two noted explorers left the U. S. in quest of the burial grounds of the Key Bird. The Key Bird, as everyone knows, is a little bird that sits on icebergs in Alaska and says, Key . . . Key . . . Key Riminyl This ice is cold! The burial grounds are believed to be in Africa. Dr. Ford and Mr. Ribble went on this hunt at the suggestion of Lucille Kempers. She told them where to go. Over at the circus, on the lot owned by Stephen B. Davis. can be found the most breath-taking act in the history of acrobatics. Don Thayer is the star of this stupendous accomwlishment. Donald, it seems, dives from the ton of a thousand foot nole into a wet wash rag. OOoops, hold the presses. Here comes a bulletin flash over the leased wires of Stephen B. Davis. The message says that Donald Thayer is on his way to the hospital in a serious condition. It seems that Don VVheeler wrung out the wash rag. Speaking of Steve Davis, we just were. Eddie Dickens, who was just this year nominated all-American for his track ability, was picked up today in the English Channel. He told authorities that he had jumped off the White Cliffs of Dover. Now, we believe that this is the first attempt to try to jump the Channel. Here at the home front the news is somewhat on the brighter side. Governor Bernie Eubank says that prices are on their way down. Speaker of the House Bob Forbes says that prices are on their way down. Joe Magruder, average citizen, says that Eubank and Forbes can both go down. The Toni Twins this month are Carolyn and Mari- lyn Buckley. The Phoney Twins this month are Jean and james Williams. jim Willy Garretson, editor of the Ladies' Home Journal, is trying to get that noted baby doctor, Larry Hogrefe, to write an exclusive article for his magazine. The Council governs jug Club, which includes every girl in school. . I jug Council sponsored two social events this year. In the fall, Jug presented the Highland Fling. a semi- formal dance held in the south gym. The theme was Scotch, complete with a plaid ceiling. In the spring the April Showers formal dance was held at the Sub building on the University campus. In addition, jug Council sponsored the get acquainted system for girls of Highland. Each new girl is assigned a big sister to show her around. Any girl having 75 jug points may earn a jug pin. For every additional 150 points, a ring is added to the guard chain on the pin. Points are earned by service to the school in many different ways. A few of the ways are: serving on clubs, decorating for dances, publications staffs, hall guards, office assistants, student council, Jug council, intramural sports, and many others. Another big event was the Jug Fall Fashion Show. A new feature this year was male models to escort the girls to the platform. Q .jug's pride and joy, the Fiesta, was a huge success. It was held March 30 in the south gym. Each gym class supported a candidate for Fiesta Queen. A grand baile was held after the Fiesta, for which Marvin Daly's band provided the music. To top off a successful year, .lug Council members held a banquet at the Fez Club. All through the year the HIGHLIGHT has reported the outstanding events. In the fall came football, homecoming, and cheerleader tryouts. Winter brought basketball, hockey, the Junior formal, along with all the gala holiday events. Spring brings baseball, the Prom, Fiesta, and last, but not least, Cradua- tion. The HICHLICHT has many outstanding features such as Margie's timely editorials, -les- sie's Rhodes Around High- land, XfVilkins Kimbrough's ln the Locker Room, not to men- tion the interesting, personal in- terviews.
