- Tl-IE CANDLE Class History N the fall of 1931 four young girls proudly entered the Freshman class of High- land Hall. Because the Sophomore class was also small that year we joined forces as the Underclassmen , and spent a very happy year. As Sophomores our numbers increased to fifteen. Wihat fun we had now that we could be masters ordering our slaves about, with remembrance of our own initiation. lYe had the privilege of setting the tables for our sister class, the Seniors, and of showing the school our dramatic talent in two playlets: At the Movies and An Interrupted Proposal . Still more important when our junior year arrived, we let others know in our special song that XYe were a peppy bunch and always so alive . lt would be impossible to tell you all the fun the seventeen of us had, but deplorable to omit a mention of the highlights of that good year. XVe followed the tradition of giving a tea dance at mid-year. XVe produced Sauce for the Goslings' and The Lost Silk Hat and gave a farewell party to the Seniors. Two days very close together saw us introduced to junior Hill, following this expedition by a very successful Junior Day. And then came Graduation XYeek and our proud acceptance of the right to sit on Senior Bench. NYe were also very proud to find that one of our class re- cei-ved the Katharine Gist Berryman Cup. Now we are Seniors. lt is with a sinking feeling that we realize our days at Highland Hall are drawing to a close but at the same time we are looking to the days beyond. Under Student Government as it has been developed this year, we feel our responsibility as Seniors more seriously than ever before. We are cer- tainly enjoying our privileges too and having great times at Senior tables. Soon we shall initiate our Juniors into the mysteries of the Hill, and give up our bench as we join the great company of Alumnae. As we leave the school we shall carry with us happy memories of past days, and we hope that the thought of its spirit will always mean much to us as we go out into a world of new experiences and untried ways. ll'lARY JANE LEE. 9
