'i Tl-IE CANDLE Hockey HE 1934 Hockey season started out with a majority of new players on both the Tan and VVhite teams. As a result, intensive practice was necessary and no games were played until October nineteenth. This game was very close, and exciting to the very last, resulting in a score of three for the VVhites and one for the Tans. The second game was played October twenty-ninth, and the XVhites again won the contest by a score of two to the Tan's one. When, on November ninth the XVhites took the third game of the season by one point- Vtfhites three and Tans two-the Tans began to fear the loss of the Hockey title which they had held for the two previous years. The effect of this thought was beneficial to the Tans, for in the next game they came away with a victory of eight to one over the Wfhites. This sudden spurt of ability on the part of Tan players, however, did not last, and the Wfhites won the Final game, fXVhites four, Tans threej giving to them the 1934 Hockey title. Q56 Basketball HIS year's basketball season opened with decided victories for the lYhites in two preliminary games in January and February. There seemed to be no doubt as to the champions this year. The first of the series of ofiicial games on February 2nd gave the victory to the XYhites with a score of thirty-seven to live. The second encounter, one of the most spectacular games of the season, saw the other side victorious with the score of twenty-live to twenty-four. This reversal of the fortunes of the light seemed to put more spirit into the Tans and made the competition keener. The XYhites were top in the third game in which the Tans gave them a very exciting time. As we go to press, the issue of the championship is still to be decided. 31

Tl-IE CANDLE Athletic Board ELIEVING Our former method Of awarding letters for work in athletics to be somewhat out of date, the Athletic board suggested this year that the school try the Point System. lt was voted On by the school and accepted. By selling refreshments at the various Hockey and Basketball games throughout the year the Board has managed to collect a surplus in its treas- ury, which made it possible for us to give to the school rubber matting for the swimming pool. NVe are hoping to be able tO improve the athletic equip- ment still more at the end of this year.
