Tl-IE CANDLE Calendar Seplembcr 25th- 'Tis a pleasure to be here At Highland Hall, the school so dear. 28th- The traditional Twig, as is the rule, Is hidden today by a girl of the school. 29th- The stunts tonight, our first event, XVe all agree were excellent. October 4th- Now we hear some moans and groans: I guess they are the new girls' tones. Ioth- The Tans and Wliites are on the run: The hockey season has begun. ln the evening all were hearty At the annual Candle party. 2oth- To the Manse we went for tea, Then Cleopatra we did see. 27tl1f .. I-lalloween was a big delight. The students, dressed in colors bright. Did in the Horror chamber dare To sit upon the Haunted Chair!! 28tl1- It isn't quite the general rule For boys to visit at the school, But the tea this afternoon Makes us hope for another soon. 29th- The XVhites again increased their fame By winning the second hockey game. .Yalfeiizber Zn cl- Mrs. Beckman came to discuss The current events of the world with us. 5th- The Tans have fought with all their might But once again the winners are VVhite. 11th- By the tire we sat this eve A Christmas pageant to conceive. 16th- Determined to be defeated no more The Tans are victors with a very big score. 17th- Plays in French were presented tonight And truly gave us great delight. Bishop Brown, our weekend guest, Added his praises to all the rest. 24

Going Fishing HE trouble began when I accepted what I felt was a not too warm invi- tation from Daddy that one of the girls go fishing with him. If Dad was disturbed at the immediate acceptance of his suggestion, he did not show it, and along I went with him, never thinking I should be a nuisance. From the start things went badly-in fact went from bad to worse. Now, I had chosen my prettiest summer frock in honor of the occasion. Dad asked if I hadn't more sense than to wear a white one. Thinking he was concerned about my getting the precious dress dirty, I took no offense at the question, but I had to ask why he handed out to me a very old jacket, torn and rather the worse for wear. Don't you know, he asked, that the white would frighten the fish ? I looked at him and laughed, but found he was not joking. Then we had to iind a boat. The first we selected leaked badly and we began to sink as soon as we had taken our seats. The second choice was better and we rowed out into the middle of the dam. It was interesting to watch Dad casting. I thought it very graceful and quite easy, and was anxious to try my luck. In response to my eager request for a lesson I was told that the first thing I had to learn was to keep quiet. It seemed that my lesson in that particular was to start right away! After some minutes of silence I began to hum to keep myself company. A Shush! crushed me for a while. He was not in such a bad humor but he had lost three fish and was getting there. Some one on shore hailed us cheerfully. I turned round to shout an answer, and rocked the boat. Daddy dropped his line and I caught it. But I didn't catch Daddy. He has not repeated his invitation. But this is private. Let no one talk. Durvzziber Sth- '.l'l1e Seniors were guests at a tea today. l'liggy as hostess, made us gay. Her cakes-from homefdeliciozzs food, Put us all in a pleasant mood. 15th- XYe all went down to see Mrs. Deem's Preparations for Christmas Eve-it seems She gathers around her hundreds of toys To be given as presents to poor girls and boys. 16th- Presented in a mood most reverent XVe see the annual Christmas pageant. This old English Miracle play XYill always in our memory stay. Ioth- Christmas is honored at Highland Hall With a party, dinner, Santa, and all. 20th- Inkwells, uniforms, books disappear. Xlfhy? My dear!! The vacations herel 1935 jlllllllll'-Y 7th- Now the students are filing right in. Yes, it is nice to be back once again! I3tl1- From today we have a memory Of a line Social Service tea. 19th- Most of the ice was pretty bad But a small smooth area kept us glad. 29th- Sing up! sing out! sing lower! sing higher! But we'll never beat the XN'estminster Choir. goth- The mid-year exam. Demands that we cram! 25
