THE CANDLE ' Class Prophecy NE day in june 1950, as l was reading a daily paper I found the following items in Heather Plaid Horse's Keyhole Column: VVe would advise the Oh-No-No-Nite Club to advertise for a new hostess in view of the fact that a prosperous young doctor has been seen in constant company with Mary Frances lVright, who is hostess at the moment. It is rumoured that the next spectacular flight of Miss Marion Stone will not be a solo one. In case Mrs. Mercedes Gallaher Blank is interested, her millionaire husband has been seen in the company of a certain very alluring blonde quite frequently. Perhaps you had better cut short your visit to the Lido, Mrs. Blank. In the social columns I found only one item which interested me :- Society was royally entertained yesterday at a fox-hunt on the estate of Miss Elizabeth Higgins, the world-renowed philosopher. The well-known author, critic and pub- lisher, Miss Maudie VVarfel from London was introduced at dinner afterwards. Turning to the reviews of current literature, plays and movies, I found the names of many old classmates. Among the notices I read :- The credit of best seller goes once again to a book of poems from the pen of Miss Betty Barth , and also to a volume entitled: Subtle Humor Applied to Advantage , the author of which is our beloved humorist, Mildred Gelstharp. The critic of current hits pays tribute to a great comedian who has a large share in making the Follies the success it is-and we find we are reading about our own Dorothy B. McCormick in her famous Ben Blue act. VVe advise you all to see the Follies of 1950 if only to enjoy the songs of the hour as sung by that popular young lady of song, Doris Dougherty. I must confess that I did not expect to meet any familiar names among the advertisements but I was wrong. Several of my former classmates do work for an honest living, as these advertisements show :- The greatest dog-show on earth-Edwards' Dog Circus--The most famous trained dogs in the world, under the personal supervision of their owner, Ruth Edwards . Martha XVetmore, expert on finger-nails, advises Cutexf' Bridge for young wits taught in easy stages by Harriet Leschey, interna- tionally-knowri authority . For artistic curling of bangs, come to Moyer's Beauty Shop . CSO Margaret is manager and owner too, I seej. Correct your English with the help of Proper Speech and Expression by Peggy Fluke. 20
