Greetings to all: The publication of this 1952 edition of the High- lander by the members of the junior Class is another in- dication that the school year is drawing to a close. The class advisors, Miss Lloyd, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Stewart, Mr. Grifhn and the Editorial Board, are to be congratulated for this splendid accomplishment. Their efforts have af- forded us the opportunity to live again the happy occasions recorded herein and to recall many pleasant schoolmates with whom we were associated. The termination of the present school year will mark the closing of my long administration as your Principal. I have been privileged to supervise the school and to be as- sisted by a group of students, teachers and non-teaching personnel whose equal it would be difficult to find. I am sensible of the great obligation I owe to each of them and to each, a sincere thank you. It is they who accomplished the imposing record credited to Highland Falls High School. Some one has compared life to climbing a rugged mountain. It is with effort that we ascend the slope each day growing stronger mentally, morally and physically. When the going is difficult as it is bound to be at times, one stops to rest and gazes back over the trail. Here and there are vivid green patches that stand out on the land- scape as pleasant, satisfying experiences. They instill the urge to press forward until the summit is reached. When ' I the goal is attained and there'is no further slope to climb, PROP- JAMES I- O'NEU-L, P'1'Yf1P4l a final glance back over the path of accomplishment is its own rewardg and then on into the shadows of the valley. The past twenty years shall always be cherished by me as the most pleasant years of my life. I shall often look back to the green pastures and live again the happy days that have been preserved in print and prose on the pages of the Highlander, I hope to be around for many years to come -- to visit the school - to talk with you and even though I shall not be your Principal, it is my hope that you shall always regard me as your friend. Cordially, Prof MR. FLOYD PECK In September, 1929, with an A. B. degree from Syracuse University and two years' teaching experience, I joined the High land Falls High School faculty. Classes were then held in the old building opposite our present school site, with Mr. Guy Has- kins as principal. During the past twenty years, our faculty and students have been fortunate in having the sincere and capable leadership of Professor james L. O'Neill. We are justly proud of our present student body and, likewise, of the solid American citizens who have in the past been loyal students of H. F. H. S. To Professor O'Neill and to the class of 1952, I extend my sincere congratulations for work well done, and may the future offer all that is best for each of you. Mr. Floyd Peck Vice-Principal
