The High Springs Chapter is no exception to this criteria. There are many op- portunities being offered the boys taking agriculture in the local chapter Some of these opportunities are as follows During the year the chapter and members have an opportunity to enter any or all ofZ3 contests sponsored by various companies and assoclatlon throughout the state These contests have very liberal prizes and they are set up so that several boys in each of the six F F A Districts of Florida can share in the prizes Such contests as public speaking parliamentary procedure livestock Judging exhibit judging chapter programs of work and all the others are excellent places to develop leadership In addition to the many F F A contests the High Springs Chapter is one of the few chapters in the state that has a land laboratory plot with a tractor and equip ment with which to work This year the members are learning to do by doing which is our motto The members are learning to operate and drive the tractor and use the equipment They are getting experience in buying seed and fertilizer for crops and financing the same They are using soil conservation methods of farming and are following a planned program They are gaining experience in budgeting and planning Many improved practices such as treating seed and planting cover crops are being followed All in all the school farm this year provides an opportunity of learning while doing which is the best method of teaching ln addition to the farm we have a well equipped shop where much time is spent in building of repairing for the school or the school farm In the shop chickens are raised for banquets and chapter meetings Besides our shop we have a well fur nished class room where we spend time on various subjects pertaining to agricul ture and F F A work This year the chapter has 42 members and they are all receiving some valuable experiences Chapter Officers Vice President Ralph Q Steen X f Charles Herndon Gene Kahlich Junior Waters Secretary f M Q17 f f T reasurer Reporter Advisor L.
