“RELAY RACE CHS WINS THANKSGIVING RELAY RACE Howard Moseley Wins Ortmann Trophy Charleston High School's relay team took a slight lead in the first lop and held on grimiy to win the Knights of Columbus' annual Thanksgiving Day Relay Race this morning. The C.H.S. team completed the four-mile course on Murray Boulevard in the good time of l9:O6.l, somewhat slower than the l8:5O,2 which won the event for Rivers High last year. Bishop England, which finished second to Rivers last year, pressed the Bantams all the way today to again finish second in the time of 19:49. The Bishops were trailed across the finish line by St. Andrews, 21:01. Rivers, which retired the team trophy last year by winning the event three years in a row, finished last in the field of four, requiring 23:25 to complete the course. The Bantams' Howard Moseley copped the Rudolph J. Ortmann trophy for the fastest half-mile lap, running the distance in 2:l4.8. A small crowd, estimated at less than 800 persons witnessed the event which was run under virtually cloudless skies. The Bantams took a slight edge at the outset over the Bishops and the race became a two-team affair. The CHS edge remained very slight until the eighth and final lop, when Robin Smith widened the margin for the winners. Originally, five teams were scheduled to participate in the event, but Moultrie High School of Mt. Pleasant dropped out at the last moment.
