UNDE RCLASSMEN The Sword Gate l-louse, built about l8lO, and presently owned and occupied as a private home, contains one ot the loveliest Adam ballrooms in America. lt is furnished with many fine antiques, and splendidly portrays the gracious living of an earlier era. The famous Sword Gates were made in Charles- ton in i838 by the celebrated Christopher Werner and installed in i849 for George Hopely, British Consul and wealthy merchant. 59 ' ,i
