PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE This June, 1969, marks the end of an era in the school. No longer will Grade IX be considered a part of the High School, as it has been for more than half a century. As in all other parts of the province, they will be the seniors in Junior High. Commencing in September, our school will be extended so that more variety in courses can be offered. We will see many new faces from Blackie and Cayley, to whom we extend a welcome. It is my hope that the combination of greater variety of courses and added students will add a new di¬ mension to the spirit within the school, and thus the school may become an improved centre where young people can develop the maturity necessary to meet the challenges of our rapidly-changing society. The difference between what is possible and what is im¬ possible is a measure of your will. Your future is on the line - shape it well. VICE-PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Today it seems many people, students and adults alike confuse the two ideas of licence and freedom. Licence is the permission to act. Licence, then, is a legal right to do what you wish. In our democratic society this means that we have licence to speak our minds, join the church of our choosing and other such matters. How¬ ever, I suggest that licence does not itself give freedom. Freedom involves not merely permission to do something, but also ability to act. All of us have a licence to apply for any job. But only those qualified by training and experience will be considered. One func¬ tion of our school system is to provide the training needed to change licence into freedom. As our school expands next year we will broaden the scope of training available to our students. I would hope that all will grasp this opportunity to broaden their training and thus their freedom. 2
