A NEW BEGINNING As the organ played and faculty marched in, a number of changes became evident. These variations were noted in faculty, speakers, and future plans. Together these changes made Convocation 1980-81. The opening prayer was lead by Dr. Vance Davis, Chaplain of High Point College. Dr. David Cole, acting President of High Point College, officially began the school year with his speech. His oration incorporated a welcome to new and returning students as well as an introduction of the speakers. The keynote speech was given by Dr. Tom Haggai, Mr. Porter, Danny Berrier, Robert Brownlow, and Tom Haggai discussing procedures before Convocation. an alumnus of High Point College. He spoke on the potential of every student. He stated that High Point College had great latency. To prove the truth in that statement, Charles E. Hayworth, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of High Point College announced in his speech that he was planning to officially ask the Board for an estimated three million dollars for the proposed library. This sudden change of pace was the perfect ending to convocation 1980-81. Thus with spirits high, faculty and students left the auditorium on September 3, 1980 seeking to find their potential.
