Track-Golf TRACK TEAM: The High Point College track team, coming off a second place finish in the Carolinas Conference meet a year ago, seems set to try to better that finish and challenge Pembroke State for the title. Bob Davidson, in his 18th year at High Point as track coach, comments, We have some quality runners and field men. A lot will depend on how hard the people want to work to improve themselves. We lost some good people and they will be hard to replace. GOLF TEAM: The golf program at High Point College has seen a steady rise since being taken over by Coach Woody Gibson in 1975. The Panthers, who had finished last in the conference for several years, have moved into the upper ranks of conference contenders and are set this year to make a real threat at winning the conference title. The Panthers play tournaments in the fall and spring in addition to several matches among conference teams. High Point will again play its home matches at Oak Hollow Golf Course. 29

Kathy Neblett. Theresa Regnante. Wilson Rogers. 28 MEN ' S TENNIS: The men ' s tennis team at High Point College goes into the 1981 season with an almost entirely new cast of performers. The top three players for the past four years, including Ail-American Willem de Groot and All- Conference performers Chris Hohnhold and Phil Parrish, have graduated, leaving a large gap to be filled. Second-year Coach Charlie Futrell has two lettermen returning in Jim Holleran and Griff Thompson. The sophomores teamed to reach the conference finals in doubles a year ago as well as being ranked among the top four doubles teams in District 26. Holleran also won the number five singles fight in the conference. High Point College has been one of the dominant tennis teams in North Carolina over the past decade. This year ' s group, when they gain experience, hope to join the elite winners of bygone years. WOMEN ' S TENNIS: With four straight conference titles under their belts the women s tennis team seems all set for a run at a fifth. Five All-Conference members of a year ago return along with three superb freshman players. Seniors Vicky Williams, Kathy Neblett and Kinta Otterman played the top three positions for the past two years and have helped lead the Panthers to their string of championships. They have also won two state championships in the past three years as well as earning three trips to the regional tournament. High Point will have the option for the first time of trying to qualify for the AIA W State and Regional Tournaments or going with the NAIA ' s new championship program for women. Either way the Lady Panthers seem set for a very successful year.
