Acting President Cole contemplates duties ahead. The academic year, 1980-81 has been one of change for the community that is High Point College. For the first time in twenty-one years the College has not been under the leadership of Dr. Wendell M. Patton, who resigned in mid-summer of 1980. The legacy of Dr. Patton includes imaginative, innovative, and successful programs both in the academic area and those generating growth in the physical plant. As the College enters the decade of the ' 80 ' s it finds a change in its student population, a population which is far more serious on its search for achievement. The lack of purpose, the I ' m for me posture of the student of the 60 ' s, and the ho-hum, what ' s next in the amusement line concept of the early and mid ' 70 ' s are gone and all of us benefit from this loss, Goals and achievement are once again acceptable. Our Faculty and Administration welcome the challenge and the change that the 1980-81 student presents. Let us look forward together to growth of purpose, growth of ideal, growth of intellect, but most of all let us together enter into a period of spiritual growth; because in the study of the Word the High Point College community will be given the true meaning of life. God bless you. David W. Cole Acting President

THE CONSISTENCY CONTINUES . . . Change is gradual and regular. As the tides flow in and out, day darkens into night, blazing flora fade into seedy pulps and warm summer breezes blow into brisk autumn winds, transformations are occuring. Nothing can stop time, its consistency continues. 16
