As the parts change, inevitably so must the institution for life to move forward. Change can bring renewed freshness and vitality if re- sponsible, or it can weaken and destroy if rash and thought- less It must never occur |ust for the sake of change for this condemns the very renewed freshness and vitality which can be its benefits We look at our past and see great change. We see things for which to rejoice, and we see things we would like to forget. i H lit Reflection is healthy; however, we must remember the sands of time allow very little opportunity for hindsight. Time goes on, so must we. We must not forget our past, but learn from it. We must look forward to the new heights and challenges of life. '  . r 6 c w. SJ T. A Fifty years ago. High Point College first opened its doors to those who wished to seek the new heights and challenges of life. Mft- — They learned that the time we are allotted is very precious. There is much that must be done. t F! . • I 1 1 7 w Summer will turn to fall, fall to winter, winter to spring, and spring in turn to summer. They learned that we can spend our time worrying about what we wanted to do but did not do. and in the process never finish anything Or we can take life as it is and begin now what we want to have finished tomorrow. A. District 26 Champions 160 PERSPECTIVE The 1973 Cross Country team concluded an- other successful season, continuing its reign as District 26 champs. Led by co-captains Mike Turmala and Joe Meek and with the help of a group of strong freshmen the team fought to the championship. The team started the season with a 27-29 victory over Campbell, and went on to place 5th in the Pembroke Invitational. 4th in the West Georgia Invitational. 4th in the Davidson Invitational. 10th in the N.C. State Meet, and then the District 26 win. The Cross Country Team finished the season with a 3rd place in the Area 7 Meet. Brian Caulfield 163 ' « Craig Habrcht, Dave Ratcliffe PERSPECTIVE Having completed its best season in three years, the HPC soccer team finished a respective 4-6-2. They worked hard all year to im- prove on the past two seasons and accomplished a first round berth in the District 26 Playoffs losing a tough to Guilford. 3-0. In his sec- ond year of coaching Ray Alley ' s soccer team has vastly improved. The team finished the first half of the season with a 1-3-2 record, and came back in the second half to win 3 games. The biggest win of the season was the 1-0 decision over Pfeiffer. which enabled them to move into the District Playoffs. This year ' s team final record doubles the total won in the past two seasons. Each year has shown an improvement and next year should be one of excitement along with one which will bring soccer back as a predominate sport at High Point College. The Tower Players cast their ballots for new officers and the new Executive Council begins rehearsal for the next year There will be a Three Month Intermission ACT II Scene 1 Mrs Raugh is back and Fall 73 brings a more complete Theatre Department To celebrate HPC ' s Golden Anniversary, the Tower Players produce a golden play Camelot Scene 2 In the winter of ' 74. the interim brings a Beckett course and the production of some of his plays. Scrambled Eggs and Beckett. Construction begins on the Old Student Center to renovate it to a multi-purpose and more suitable for Theatrical production The Tower Players adopt a new emblem and are busier than ever with productions and organization of a stronger department 224 ACT III As the curtain rises on Act III. we find the Tower Players anticipating spring and the completion of renovation of the Old Student Center, arrival of CDA One Act Play Festival hosted by Alpha Psi. the institution of the new Theatre Arts Education Maior. the pro- duction of our first realistic, historical play. This is an era of drastic change We seem to be moving too fast, and at times we wonder if the speed and c worthwhile. Where are we going? Some say to the future, some to the past f High Point College has come a long way since that day in September of 1924 when it first opened its doors ' new heights and challenges of life. It has attained a milestone in an age when many similar institutions are falteri It is not perfect, but then neither are we. We have grown, learned, and changed together making mistakes along tfw but always looking forward to something better. As we begin our second fifty years, we must address ourselves to our state of being. All of us at this institution have obligations to the future as well as to the past. We have the obligation to those who will follow us to continue the educational process, not  ily in the classroom, but in the wide range of experiences without which a classroom education would be meaningless. We have the obligation to see that this institution does not stop but continues searching for the best, challenging us to do our best as we join together to help High Point College reach high, never being satisfied with any final goal. What could be more important, we have the obligation to continue talking to each other, reasoning when we differ, but always listening. For this institution will die if we ever reach the point at which we can not discuss our problems and find solutions together. Those who are leaving have the obligation to take what was learned at High Point College, both the good and the bad, with them, to mold their experiences of four years here into their lives using the knowledge gathered to attain future goals and to better themselves. If we fulfill our obligations. High Point College will continue into the next fifty years with the same spirit of birth, growth, and change which marked its beginning If we forget, it will die a slow painful death, for what we have made here, with all its faults, w not survive without the people who made it what it is.
