Our world of today demands that we be persons who possess strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and above all else, ready hands. It is in our beloved teacher that we find all of these attributes. Each student who has been one of her fold can never forget the class lectures, the office conferences, and the many on the spot conversations just outside the classroom. Her concern, her desire for knowledge, her willing hands, her wise counsel, and her open heart will long be remembered by many students at High Point College. We admire her uniqueness, her love of students, and her friendliness to all. For this and much more, we respectfully and humbly dedicate this book to DR. HELEN R. BARTLETT DEDICATION

Our President As you complete your college careers and move forward to begin the real adventure of life, let me wish for you every success and the fulfillment of all your dreams of days past. To be sure the world into which you are now finding your way may not prove to be a very hospitable one. This is an age of technology and science, dominated by the incantations of digital computers — and sur- rounded by insecurity, fear, and tension. But never forget, you are living at the junction of one of the great periods of his- tory when your choices will shape the future for good or evil. You will have the oppor- tunity to help supply the morality and ethics to this world of technology — and make a paradise on earth rather than a hell on earth. This is your real task No generation has had a greater purpose, a more challenging opportunity, or more serious responsibility. As Montaigne wrote of his period of war, famine, and disease Let us thank fortune that has not made us life in an effeminate, idle, and languishing age May God be with you and guide you.
