Vera Idol, Faculty Advisor ML SIHE HUM ME [Nothing Without divine Guidance ■DEDICATION With sincere appreciation and deepest gratitude, we, the staff, dedicate the 1954 Zenith to Mrs. Alice Paige White, who has been a member of our college faculty since its beginning. You have been more than a teacher, Mrs. White. You have taught us not only from textbooks but by precept and example. Your Christian character has influenced the students of High Point College to aspire to higher walks of life and greater service. You have been quoted as saying, I don ' t get tired when I teach; rather I feel inspired. You have made us feel inspired too, Mrs. White. And so for your personal interest in the students and for your patience and untiring spirit as a true friend and beloved teacher, we dedicate this annual to you. CONTENTS I. ADMINISTRATION II. PREVIEW Of ' 53 - ' 54 BASKETBALL SEASON After last season ' s surprise championship basketball team under the guidance of Coach Bob Davis, the outlook for this year ' s season is what it was expected to be. High Point College, always a high power in the North State Conference, is having the worst season in the history of the in- stitution. At the time this news goes to press, it is doubtful if the Panthers will make the Conference Tournament, but. who knows, they may have a streak of good luck. Coach Virgil Yow is back again at his old Alma Mater after a very successful coaching career with the Winston-Salem I lanes Hosiery Girls Team. Pacini; the squad of basketball players on this year ' s team is senior. Captain Kent Moselev. and junior, Harold Slick Sykes, the only two players who have played consistently. At the forward positions, Sykes, Tony Lisk, and two freshmen. Paul Stanton and Harold Crump, arc seeing plenty of action. At the center position Bill Simpson and two other freshmen. Ken White and Karl Mosteller, are being groomed for very important posts. Kent Moseley and Ken Frazier are getting plenty of competition from Conrad West. Roy Dixon, and David Moore. The 1953 intramural football season ended with the NDM bombers resting in top place in the stand- ings. Led by Jerry Paschal ' s pin-point passing, and surviving a sound thrashing by the hot SPE charges, the NDM came out on top to lead the other fraternities in what most sideline critics consider a successful season. The IKK seems to take its share of the laurels when it comes to winning an intramural honor. This hustling team of fraternity athletes won the 1953 intramural Softball championship. Then to add to their prestige, they received top honors in the volleyball league. The 1953 intramural basketball championship was won by the Travelers coached by the able Sid Williams. The Travelers always seem to have a well balanced team plus the needed spark to carry them to the top of the final standings. These are the teams that won the individual intramural sports, and, without a doubt, each one deserved it; however, we cannot fail to give honor to the excellent participation of the other students and fraternities. To the winners and to the fraternities, we take this opportunity to thank you for your co-operation in keeping intramural sports a competitive student activity at High Point College. ;;i; INTRAMURAL SOFTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS TKE - Ralph Vick Lvnn Kini;. During the 1952-53 basketball season (the season we won the NSC tournament) we had what was believed to have been the best student attendance ever seen at High Point College. This year, even though the chips were down sometimes and the other team always seemed to be ahead, the students backed the team in spite of the score. The spirit at I ligh Point ( lollege is one that will endure forever in the memories of the students who come to the ball games to pull for their team and back them up regardless of the win-loss record. Although it is something latent and seemingly intangible, that spirit is brought out when it is needed, whether it be a Conference tilt or an intramural game. Through the co-operation and participation of the students plus hard work of the players, we can make High Point College the number one team in the North State Conference. ;;:: WOMEN ' S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION First row, left  right: Ann VonCannon, Treasurer; Gwen Reddick, President; Eleanor Clapp, Vice-President; Frankie Goad, Secretary; Shirley Harris, Vickie Washburn, Caml Liner, Freda Redding.
