The thought of living together for four years was thrilling, and many tilings were to be done. There was so much ahead of us! Of course we were green for a while, but before long we learned our way around and began to feel that we were a part of the college. Then came those terrible days when many of our fellow classmates left us to join the armed forces. We were heartbroken at the thought, but the boys themselves took it bravely. Although we who remained have missed them, the memory of the happy times we have had together will always be with us. High Point College will always hold a place deep in our hearts. We have grown to love the college, the stu- dents, the faculty, and all that is a part of it. May this book serve to keep fresh in our minds forever memories of our friends, our teachers, and our college. Mic am) Dee. Athletic Association The Athletic Council is responsible for much of the school spirit of the cam- pus. The members of the council direct and supervise all intercollegiate sports in which the college participates. By means of physical education classes and intra- mural sports, they extend the athletic program to every student on the campus. Since the manpower shortage has made it impossible to continue with many of the intercollegiate sports, an Intramural Committee has been formed to pro- mote more interest in intramural games, and to broaden the extracurricular life of the college student, From all appearances the intramural program has met with decided success. The remarkable history that the team has made is cine to one of the new prospects, Nancy Isenhour, a senior girl, who gained a position on the squad. Nancy is the first girl ever to play on a boys ' basketball varsity in any college. Her participation in the games helped to boost the spirit of the players as well as that of the student body, and the novelty of her playing on the team has brought considerable publicity to the college. Not only was her picture featured in local news- papers, but it also appeared with a fea- ture article in Collier ' s Magazine; and a photographer from the Universal News Reel took pictures of her on the campus and in action for an oddity short. The team played a number of strong service teams, and, although they lost most of these tilts, they gained valu- able experience which enabled them to win six out of ten conference games. Two of our players, Malcolm Sullivan and Arthur Sheek, were chosen by the coaches of the conference for guard positions on the All-North State Con- ference Team.
