WOMEN’S GUILD OF HIGH POINT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL In recognition of their inexhaustable energies and ceaseless endeavors, we, the class of nineteen hundred and sixty-six, dedicate THE LIGHTED LAMP to the Women's Hospital Guild of High Point Memorial Hospital. Without the dedication of these ladies, the environment of the hospital and nursing school as we know it today would not have been possible. The members of this group have unselfishly dedicated their spare hours to the interests of the hospital, and to the welfare of the patients and personnel. Through untold hours of service, the members of the Women's Hospital Guild have earned our deepest gratitude and that of everyone associated with the hospital.

DEDICATION HISTORY The Women's Guild of High Point Memorial Hospital was organized March 4, 1945. Its stated purpose was to assist the Board of Trustees in furthering the interests of the hospital and the welfare of the patients. From the beginning they have provided a social worker for the patients, and from 1950 when the first new building was opened, a soda shop has been operated by the Guild. This has provided comfort for families of the sick, and moments of rest and a cup of coffee for all personnel of the hospital. And then one hot summer the Guild decided to air-condition the hospital. The patient areas came first, of course. Then as time passed many of the service areas received window units. When the east wing was built the entire area was air-conditioned. Through the years the Women's Guild has constantly been interested in nursing service, and encouraging the best nurses to come into High Point. They have provided many scholarships for student nurses, and are constantly making contributions of time and money to advance the school. Among the large gifts to the nursing school are the piano, the tape recorder and air-conditioning of the dens and lobby. Members of the Guild are always present to help with the special occasions of capping and graduation. The wonderful Christmas teas, and the annual picnic at the Millis farm are highlights of student years, and make lovely memories of our nursing school. The Guild has financed representation of a member of the student body at National Student Nurses' meetings from Atlantic City to San Francisco. Through the assistance of the Guild a well equipped Medical Library is being built in the hospital. This past year the Guild was responsible for High Point Memorial Hospital becoming the first hospital in the state to acquire the three Hall Surgical Air Drills. With these instruments a new and dramatic improvement could be made in safety for the patient requiring such surgery. This is only a glimpse of the history of the Women's Hospital Guild. We can not relate the hours of service by individual members nor the time and effort that has gone into planning and working for the tremendous contributions that have been made to the hospital, but the history is written indelibly in the spirit and the bricks and the mortar of High Point Memorial Hospital. GOD MADE A NURSE To be a nurse is to walk with God, Along the path that our Master trod; To soothe the achings of human pain; To faithfully serve for little gain; To lovingly do the kindly deed -- A cup of water to one in need, A tender hand on a fevered brow, A word of cheer to these living now; To reach the soul through its body woe. Ah This is the way that Jesus would go. Oh, white capped nurses in dresses of white, Our Great Physician is working through you' God made a nurse. He made her heart true, brave and kind, And like the mountain streams her mind Is crystal clear, yet swiit and deep As where its waters rush and sweep. He made her hands strong, tender, skilled; Their touch with his own pity filled, And gave to make his nurse complete A sense of humor, wholesome, sweet. God made a nurse. Author unknown
