HIGH POINT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL School of Nursing High Point, North Carolina Foreword We, the graduating class of 1963, have tried in our own way to preserve the past three years in this yearbook. As our friends look through these pages maytheyremember us as we shall remember them. Thank you for all you have done for us. MISS JUANITA YARBOROUGH We, the Class of 1463, dedicate our yearbook to one who has been both instructor and friend tous these three years. She has given us the firm guidance that a frightened Freshman needs the first days on the hall, the gentle push that a hesitant Junior needs in changing the first dressing, and has been a constant spur in getting the Seniors to acheive their full potentialities. Miss Yarborough, this is a very small expression of our deep gratitude. cl teed eee ete) WOhGne cee e7t te Pe ee STRERRER RES (piieaasd ens PER CRAH EEL EEA TEER OO EE REE: Litteerrrete, Seabee herbed PRRR EER Oey or tae +9 a DR. The expectant mothers come in very frightened of the un- known, but the thought of why they are here usually calms them. Watching a mother ex- amine her baby for the first time can be both amusing and heart-warming. Even working on Pediatrics with the ill children is a happy time. Children never seem to run out of ways to entertain us. Mrs. Clark preparing the delivery table I am sure after we graduate our most vivid memories will be of the seven weeks spent in the Operating Room. Walking into this department of our hospital is like entering a strange and interesting world. Our first weeks here are spent le arning a new language, sterile technique, and coordination b e tween doctor and nurse. We do this with knocking knees, shaking hands, and clenched teeth. Our next adventure is then in the Recovery Room where we learn the How's and Why's of reacting the patient. In Washington almostall nationalities and all income brackets are represented which results in a wide variety of illnesses brought to the hospital. Our curriculum includes three months of instruction and experience in Medical and Surgical Ped- iatrics, Isolation, Out-Patient Department, and Psychiatry. While in Washington we also enjoy concerts, sight-seeing, movies, plays, and parades-just to name a few. Our three months affiliation at Chestnut Lodge was both edu- cational and entertaining. While we were there we learned quite a bit about ourselves as well as about mental illness. Due to the location of Rockville we found our social life to be at CHESTNUT LODGE-MAIN BUILDING its best.1 am sure we all agree that this is invaluable experience t o both our education and social status. 65 CLASS COLORS Yellow and White CLASS FLOWER Yellow Rose CLASS MOTTO If the man loves the labor of his trade, apart from any question of success or fame, the gods have called him. Robert Louis Stevenson ELIZABETH ANN DOUGLASS BOB AVERETT FIRST METHODIST CHURCH We looked forward to the day we would receive our caps as if it was the end of the world. In a sense, I suppose that was true because it would deter- mine who would be asked to leave the program and who would stay. We all half-way felt that when we put the cap on we would know just everything! But the next morning when we reported for duty we found this to be far from true. We still had to search for the right answers, and we are still searching for knowledge. Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph: a beginning, a struggle, and a victory.
