Chrough the Years Let’s turn back the pages of memory to that day, September 3, 1944, when we found our- selves in a new environment with strangers to work with. I’m sure each of the 22 of us ex- perienced an indescribable feeling as we received our first glimpse of the future. For the most part, our probation period was spent in the class room under Mrs. Sherrod’s watchful eye, with only a few hours on the wards each day. .After the first three months, two of our classmates decided that nursing was not for them; they dropped from our midst. At Christmas, all of us were thrilled and excited over the idea of two weeks vacation. On our return, we were ready to take up our studies anew and look forward to our duties as student nurses. Remember how proud we were when we received our caps that day back in January, 1945? We had a feeling of great importance and progressiveness. Time passed swiftly and soon we were Juniors, and very proud because it meant one more step up the ladder of our chosen career. Among the many things that happened during this year was the leaving of five more of our classmates at different times. We had the privi- lege of an affiliation of three months in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital, Washington, D. C., for this we are very grateful. On September 3, 1946, we became Seniors, and very proudly donned our black bands. We realized that this meant more responsibility than we had ever had before. And now, as we look forward to graduation and wearing the white uniform of a graduate nurse, we know that we have not, as yet, reached our goal, but we feel that our efforts have not been in vain. We wish to extend our appreciation to those who have helped us over the difficult situations of the past three years, and we will be forever grateful. CAROLYN FRYE HELEN GoFORTH
