The Football Season Nlo SOONEP had Sehoor gotten , under w ay than the old football players and others wrth ambr trons met and began to organ rze a squad Parson Holloway was asked to coach the squad and he en thusrfrstrcallv consented Professor Bran'1111 consented to manage the bus mess frffarrs of the prospectrve team and Buddre Morgan w as elected C'1pt'1rn On Monday September 8 twelve COACH E D HOLLOW AY men reported for practrce Among these there were only four experrenced players but rn the followrng weeks our ranks were swelled to a total of seventeen rncludrng Chamblrn Ander son who belonged to a class of football players rarely seen on Hrgh School teams Strengthcned and encouraged by these addrtrons the team was put thru hard pr actrce rn preparatro 1 for the fu st game of the season Odessa vs Hrggrnsvrlle at Hrggrnsvrlle Odessa had defeated us rn the games the two precedrng years and the team and Hrgh School w ere determrned to even up the score agarnst them hard fought battle By our abrlrty to hrt the lrne harder than our' oppon ents and by our superror team work we defeated them by a score of 6 0 The next Frrday October 3 accompanred by thrrty seven automobrles filled vvrth rooters we arrrved at Odessa to w rn another vrctory The Week s practrce h rd done wonder s w rtlr th Odessa team and vs e faced a more deter rnrned and better org 1nr7ed t am than that of the pr ecedrng week The day was Kerr hot and much credrt belongs to the rooters w l1rch put the pep rnto us whrch enabled us to w rn by a score of 7 to 0 On October 10 flushed wrth our vrctorres we rourneyed to Slater to add to them But alas because of a muddy field the Slater team s super 101 vs erght and our rnabrlrtv to get star ted on end runs we vs ere defeated by a score of 12 0 Thrs defeat drd not dampen the sprrrts of the team as we realrzed we had played a hard game On the other hand rt made us realrze that we would go up agarnst teams of superror' vs erght all thru the season The next game w as played at Oak Grove October 17 A home comrng prcnrc w as berng grven for the returned soldrers and the game was a part I :- l , 1 N 4 . - a o ' ' I u , rv . .C .
