Principal’s Message Higgins Junior High School PEABOOY, MASSACHUSETTS 0l?40 From the Principal ' s Pen The opening page of your 1981 YEARBOOK permits me the opportunity to extend my best wishes end congratulations to our ninth graders who ere graduating from the Higgins Junior High School this year. May you achieve success on every step of your educational Journey. In my message each year I try to mention some major events that can be recalled later in life and the impact they had on your lives this year. One such event occured on January 20, 1961 vihen the 53 . erican Hostages were released in Iran after 444 days of captivity. That action unified all the people of the United States to such a de- gree, that once again the spirit of patriotism was seen from coast to coast. Ve showed the world that we were the people of the UNITED states. Earlier in the year we found two changes mandated by the voters. Nationally they elected a new President by a landslide. It will be his Job to control the runaway inflation which is affecting our lives. Locally the people of Massachusetts adopted a measure called Proposi- tion This law will definitely affect our quality of living as it allows less money for all local municipal services. Years from now you will be able to assess the results, either for good or for bad, of the 1980 Election. Finally I must note that I was greatly impressed by the respect- ful and dignified manner in which the young people expressed their sympathy at the time of John Lennon ' s death. There is no ouestion but that the music of the Beatles had a most profomd impact on the youth of the world. This YEARBOOK will become more valuable and meaningful as the years go by. These will be the only visual images of your days at the Higgins Junior High School. Our thanks go to the Yearbook Ad- visors, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Donovan and their hardworking staff who nut this all together for you. groups John V. ' . Newbern wrote that people can be divided into three those who make things happen those who wctch things happen those v ho v ' onder what happened With v;hich group v;ill you be identified as you mature into adulthood, hopefully it will be the first. O ' Connor Principal Unit Directors Mr. Donovan, A House Mr. Greehy, B House Mr. Purcell, C House Guidance Counselors Mr. O’Shea Mrs. Mattarocchia Mr. Goldberg Mrs. Sakaris, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Goulos School Secretaries Mr. Winchell, Mr. Gness, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Spinale, Mr. Sousa Cafeteria 3 Our Faculty As we prepare to leave the familiar classrooms and corridors of Higgins Jr. High, let us pause a moment and fondly recall our friends and helpful advisors, the members of the faculty. Words cannot express adequately the debt of gratitude we owe them. It is only by their advice, encouragement and kindly help that we have succeeded in gain ing the invaluable knowledge which we shall carry with us through life. We realize that theirs has not been an easy task. Before we bid them farewell, it is our wish that the members of our faculty know that we are not unappreciative of the services they have so cheerfully rendered. Now that we realize how much they had to do in so little time, we can readily appreciate the marked success of their efforts. Wherever we find ourselves in the years to come, we can be sure that these men and women, whom we have grown to know and respect, will remain always in our memories. 4 First Row: S. Amenta, L. But time is turning and days roll on, I can feel a change take place I wish to relive those memories, And every step retrace Familiar times and familiar faces, I feel them all rearrange. Our lives will always remain our own. But we ourselves will constantly change. So I leave you now my lifeless friend. And thoughts of you I hold. I treasure all my years with you. As I would a piece of gold. So I’ve picked up my pieces, gone back on the road, And now I’ll be on my way. My feelings have left me but speechless. And “Farewell” is all I can say. By: Julie Gargas
