l1 ROBERT S IRELAND SUPER NTENDENI ■P Higgins Junior High School PEABODY, MASSACHUSEHS 01960 Edward J. O ' Connor Principal PRINCI PAL ' S MESSAGE This YEARBOOK is one of fond memories of your Junior High School yeors at the Higgins. As you thumb through the various pages you will recall events that mode these yeors between elementary school ond high school o time of personal growth and ocademic progress. In 1776 a concerned group of people, who lived within sight of the spot where the Higgins Junior High is located, supported o couse which eventually brought forth the United Stotes of Americo. For two hundred yeors-men and women, boys and girls, native born and immigrant, worked ond fought side by side to build this community in a spirit of freedom and peace devoted to justice. These aspirations hove been handed down from generotion to generation to this very day. Now our Country is two hundred years old, but the Higgins Junior High School is but five years old-we have one hundred ninety five years to achieve our Bicentennial. These past few years have been beset by o National Recession ond an extended period of Economic Inflation. The Higgins Junior High in its short span of yeors has grown to be the second largest Junior High School in Mo ssa c h u se 1 1 s- a pupil inflotion greater than ever anticipated. Today-in the days of your youth, you will gloss over many of these words and ideas. Tomorrow-in the years of your maturity, you will dis- cover that you have been given the trust to preserve the glorious heritage of America ' s two hundred years. Graduates, do not be afraid to stand up and speak out os the brave patriotsdid two hundred years ago. This nation needs potriots now in 1976 just os much os it needed them in 1776. Your Unit Directors, teochers, counselors, and office clerks join me in wishing you acodemic success, good health and spirituol happiness as you go forth to the next level in your educational career. Sincerely Edward J onnor P ri n c i po I 1 i
