Top Right: Shannon and Jeremy are having fun in their sand bo Bottom Right: Monkey see, Monkey do!! 86- 87 Covote Takes on New Look Life is played out one day at a time and can make drastic changes almost immediately. This is why the annual is “A Year in Your Life at H.H.S.” The Annual Staff made drastic changes this year. The yearbook is arranged according to the month the activity happened. As you thumb through the 1986-87 Coyote, the year should unfold month by month just as it occurred. 3

SCHOOL: 10' 2 MONTHS LONG?!? The calendar says school began September 2; but for a lot of folks, it actually started around the middle of July. On July 13, five girls and Mrs. Nicholson loaded up in the gray station wagon (hoping and praying it would get them all the way to Amarillo) for Annual Camp. After checking into the Hampton Inn, they unloaded, unpacked, and went to get something to eat. The next three days were filled with new ideas for layouts, covers, and lots of enthusiasm (created by Taylor Publishing Company representatives). While the yearbook staff was still in Amarillo, another group arrived July 16th for the State F.F.A. Convention. Two students received their Lone Star Farmer degrees at this convention — Susan Mann and Billie Jo Whitsitt. Things slowed down until mid-August when the cheerleaders took off for Plainview, TX, for cheerleading camp. They learned many cheers and chants for the new school year. The girls received awards for their cheering abilities and spirit. They received the Spirit Stick twice during the week and got to bring one home. (That’s a real honor, folks!) As they were coming home with sore muscles, a crick in the neck, and blisters, the football team had already started the grueling two-a-day workouts. The young men were up and about by 6 a.m., were out on the field by 7 a.m., and practiced until 9 o’clock. They went home and some worked and some just tried to catch up on sleep or relaxed their sore muscles. They then went back to the fieldhouse and back out on the field by 7 p.m. Many of these work-outs lasted until 9:00 or 9:30 into the evening. The workouts started August 11 and continued for almost two weeks. As you can see, school doesn’t end on May 27th and pick up again on September 2nd, but is generally stretched out for a full year. Top: Diana and Jenean give a big smile for the camera at a home football game. Above: It looks like Stephanie is showing Carrie her blisters from basketball practice. Do they hurt, Steph? Right: It seems Aurthur isn’t too happy with Mrs. Neighbors and she doesn’t really seem to care. 4
