CLASS PROPHECY I like reunions. The class of 1954 held one in Higgins in 1964. A lot happened in those 10 years I found several classmates that looked worse than I did. Some of the class looked mighty old, fat, and some pretty run down. You surely remember old Darle. He couldn't diagram a sentence, didn't know an adverb from church. Ann used tosay he'dprobably grow up to be afair posthole digger, but now is digging uranium and owns Higgins' Bank. The timid little woman I didn't recognize turned out to be Clydeen. It seemed she had wasted so much energy giggling, talking, and running around, that she had been under a doctor's care for years. No wonder, being a teacher of her 17 kids. The fellow with 4 chins turned out to be Denny. He's president of the Visiphone Association now, that enables you to see the person you’re talking to on the phone, and has made millions. And do you remember Nancy, the musician of the class? Maybe you can't tell which is she, she is the one on the right, the other object is the piano. She won’t weigh a pound over 330. She takesher own piano to her talent shows for personal appearances. Everyone remembers Thelma as the class cut-up. Today she is the settled, precise leader of society in Washington, D.C. One that will never be forgotten of the class is Opal. She hobnobs with the big bugs in Washington, and is their favorite lady barber but has one male on her mind. She married S. D. We hear through society that Ray has become dog catcher at Podunk. With the help of Shirlene they run a home for stray dogs. Carlene, the little spit fire who never could quite make up her mind just whom she liked, finally decided, after her 10th engagement, to marry Dale. They have made a fortune milking cows. Now they look seedy driving a car Dale bought from B. C. Hum in 1954. We began to wonder where our classmate, Huldrich, and Nelda had located. He soon drove up in a Cadillac; he is doing detective work with the U. S. Gov. in Washington, D. C., and has 2 children and 3 lap dogs. As we toured the town of Higgins, we noticed a sign: Wassenmiller and Stucker Grocery. Joann and Francis, her husband, are co-ownersof the former Slack and Wassenmiller Store with Wassenmiller. To our surprise we noticed a very aristocratic individual coming to our 1964 banquet. A minute interview revealed Wilma - disappointed twice in matrimony - taking her vengeance as an old maid on society. Dr. Beebe is head of the English Department of Higgins College. C. E. Gourley, superintendent and coach, of '54, was unable to attend the reunion due to the fact that after all these years of hoping, he had finally taken a basketball team to State. They won, and the shock was so great that he was recuperating in the new hospital. As we continue down the street we see Mr. Knight with his first granddaughter. The smile on his face was quite different from the smile when he was giving the Seniors English exams. He looked like the new proud father, instead of Harold, Jr. As we counted all of our classmates, we found out that we hadn't seen Duane. We waited for several minutes before we saw him in a '64 Ford driving in from the Booster Station. He is happily married to Maralyn and they have twin boysi Just starting, he said.
