JUNE OF '55 June, 1955, isn't just another month for the graduating class of Higgins. For us it is the month that starts many new adventures and ends others. To some it marks the beginning of self support. Some of us will continue to go to school, others will stay home and work, while others will go into the armed forces. It is the month that will end school days for some of us. In June, 1955, we will say good bye to our classmates. Some we will probably never see again, others we will see frequently. Whatever our classmates do, let's wish them the best of prosperity. by Gareth Blackwell , . .a...1..-., yumurs 'I fs J J GJ ff uw, Q ?xqf2' JN, f Q XX 3 ., JR iii' ' y3 I 1 ' 12.22, -1 ,,.,Li .,V,. -.- ' . -f '- l if -1 .A-,,' 1 -'.v' 3 1,'- ,-.'.'- 5 ' Vfjl-jill? glziff-'11 ','.'-' ' 7 :F U , ' 'V ,.gI5I5i5i51515:3ii: J EQEQEEEEE-fi1f5f11? A team is evaluated not by its wins and losses, hut hy its co-operation, attitude, and persistency in spite of its superior opponent. Our team was an unusually small group which was matched with larger schools. The Knights of Higgins are not to he judged by their seasonal record, hut by their development throughout the season as individuals striving for the same goal. Any sport is similar to life. One finds out if he can take as much as he gives. We claim that the best team does not always wing this is true for you only to get out of anything what you put into it. The satisfaction of feeling that you have actually accomplished something as a team is proof that you have been successful. Basketball . . A, , ' - 'ff N Q fy , I Q W ' -V H ' , . Q. ftgxg 1 A . Varsity Kaskcfball The varsity basketball group had a reasonably fair season, winning while losing The team, although lacking in height, played a driving and scrappy game throughout the year. Higgins lost the initial game of the season to M. C. I. lol-TIQ they were unable to gain a second game with their rivals due to hazardous weather. In the State Prep Tournament, Higgins defeated Hebron in the first round with an im- pressive 96 to 87 score. This put the Knights into the final round against M. C. I. Howard Seavey led the scoring for Higgins with 27 points. The Knights showed their skill from the foul line by making more than half of their shots. In the second game the Knights fought a brilliant battle against the Huskies from M. C. I. At the half Higgins led 39 to 5' but at the final gun went down to defeat 95 to '3. Seavey led the team scoring with 21 points. The boys again did a remarkable job at the foul line by scoring two-thirds of their shots. XVe are all very proud of the fact that Howard Seavey and Alvin Trask were named to the Maine Prep-school All-tourney team. Blanchard, Manager. . IA Kwkdfbdff The Knights j. V. unit, although winning only two games while losing six, gained much experience which they formerly lacked. The crew was hampered time and time again by sickness and injuries and was never able to find the right combination. The J. Vfs lost some heartbrealgers, but were not quite able to pullout on top without a full Squad. They played well, and although they ended up on the short end of several scores, they never lost their competitive spirit. Their willingness to learn was one of the most out- standing factors of the team. Their captain-elect was Arthur Higgins, who commented onthe season: I don't think we could have had a better coach than Redmond. He gave us all his time he could and we learned a lot about basketball.
