Whether they coach basketball, football, volleyball, gymnastics, or track, each has the goal to make his team the best. Each coach puts much of his or her time and patience into the team they are coaching. When the team is practicing or playing, a part of the coach is out there with them going through each move. When the team wins, the coach has a feeling of personal victory. The opposite holds true with losing. At the end of the season, the coach can reflect and relate to the team's past falls and triumphs. But one thing can be said, if the coach feels the team gave everything they had no matter what the record, then he can feel something was accomplished. Sometimes Good Sometimes Bad The 1976 football team turned in a comparably good record for their first season. They toiled long hours in the hot August sun and the cool Septem- ber evenings. Slowly, but surely the team was whipped into shape. Muscles were toned and weight was lost as they performed calisthentics, practiced different plays, and ran wind sprints. Practices would sometimes seem never ending, but when they did, team members would crawl to the showers and water fountains to quench their thirsts and wash a hard workout's sweat from their bodies. The rewards reaped from all this work were sometimes great and sometimes small. Games were lost and games were won, but one could safely say it was an interesting and exciting expe- rience.
