BRIAN QUICK is returning to the town of his High School years. The sign says HICKSVILLE 7 miles. Running his TR -6 about 145 mph, Brian happened upon a hitch¬ hiker. The sign in her hand said HICKSVILLE, so he figured he might as well give her a ride into town (mind you, Brian had no bad intentions when he gave this female a lift). Well, it turned out to be SALLY STICK- NEY and upon inquiry Brian learned that she had hitch-hiked around the world. It had taken her 10 years to accomplish her feat. She had started on Mary 27th, 1973. Sally was surprised to see Brian. Her mother had told her that Brian had moved to Austria to sing with the Vienna Boys Choir. Seeing Brian again made Sally wonder what had happened to the rest of the Class of 73. Being a traveling man, Brian saw many people and many places. One night in New York, he noticed two familiar faces. Afterwards, he found out it was the famous FBI Team of PATTI LUCA and SHIRLEY MENDENHALL. They were in New York to snag the notorious Yontz Gang. Both KIETH and KENT claimed innocence, while Patti and Mendy had no comments. Sally knew more about the persons who had stayed nearer to Hicksville. For instance, she knew that JIM BATTERSHELL gave up driving Cadillacs. He found Volkswagens to be cheaper on gas. CYNDY ETCHEY became a Psychiatrist and worked in Toledo. VIRGINIA TIMBROOK didn’t want to break up the friendship, so she became Cyndy’s number one patient. BRENDA PHILLIPS wasn’t doing so well. After the school turned her loose on the world, she joined the Navy, but received a medical discharge due to sea sick- ness. ■ ' ■ 1 ‘ : , ' ‘ It ’ While Sally was in Tokyo, Japan, she heard a strange rumor of a nuclear Physicist marooned on the pen¬ insula of Kamchatka. It turned out to be PAM GAMBREL. Naturally she was alarmed at.first, but was quick¬ ly put at ease when she heard that help was on the way. DICK BELTZ and GARY ROHRS were just off the coast in a submarine. They would r escue Pam as soon as the Russians stopped shooting at them. Also ' in Japan were BECKY ADDIS and GAIL TONNEAS. Gail was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Nursing Corps and Becky had quit her job as a bed pan peddler at Fountain Manor to become a pilot. Brian had read in the News Tribune (now owned by DEB BERGMAN and DEB SLATTERY) that the High School Government teacher, Tom Hallett, had been replaced by DON BAUMGARDNER. BRAD and JILL SMITH now have twelve kids and twelve Dairy Bars. They must think things come cheaper by the dozen. BILL MYERS became a Conservation Officer. Everyone calls him Uncle Mokey. GLEN BARK MAN bought out Virgil Rohrs and now owns a chain of Gas for Less Stations. , ' SANDY WEBER became a model. She has just renewed her contract with Playboy Magazine and DILLON HOUSER is this month’s centerfold for Cosmopolitan Magazine. A few people made it into show biz. JANE EWING is working on Broadway. MARIAN SCHLIESSER works on the Love American Style” television show. Last week she was chosen ' Playmate of the Year. ’ CATHY WONDERLY took over Uni ' s place and does Uni¬ royal commercials. . ;;i Some of the kids really made their lives worthwhile. LUCY DIMGARD became Warden of San Quentin Prison. TAMMY KING and KAREN SCOTT ’opened a Beauty School in Antwerp and MARCIA HOOK has. en¬ rolled as a student. JANET KIRBY married the president of Taylor Publishing Company and everyone knows who is the real” president now. DON TERRY took over the Palace of Sweets and MIKE COPLIN manages the Open Door. ;f , f; j i | 7 Pm I _ | 104 Some of the kids went into some pretty weird businesses. Take JEFF THIEL for instance. Jeff sells New and Used Johnny on the Spot Outhouses, while MARK LEAVELL designs them. ALLEN SHOUGH works for Jacques Cousteau as a Penguin expert. BUFF COOK hasn ' t done much with her life. She has chased a certain man through 27 different colleges. Does she want a degree or a man? MARSHA KIMMEL moved to Texas. She now owns a cattle ranch. If one is ever in the mood for a chicken supper, he should go to Colonel GARY YODER ' S Chicken House. Many of the kids joined the sports world. The big race at Indianapolis this year has many Hicksville fans. It seems that the favorites are DAVE McCLELLAN in his 1983 Tank Special, JOHN BOON in his 1983 Vega, and ROGER FERGUSON in his Track Suit. MITZI GLOOR recently won the 1982 Decathalon and ROLAND STULT Z was drafted as Wilt Chamberlain ' s replacement for the Los Angeles Lakers. TIM HAVEN won the Tennis Championship at the Hicksville Tennis Courts. The notorious cassinova of Pro Golf, BOB LARSON, won the Masters Championship, and GARY ZIMMERMAN beat Chris Taylor in Pro Wrestling at the Ringer Memorial Coliseum. LuANN KEELEY placed first in the Cairo to Capetown bicycle race in Africa. Of course there are those that live dangerously. NANCY HELSEL and REX TURNBULL do free fall tricks at County Fairs. DEB BASHOR works as secretary to Mr. Kurry and TERRI SMITH took over Mrs. Wises’ position. JIM THIEL really hit it big. He became player-coach of that ' great football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. JOE TIMBROOK, GARY STEVENS, and MIKE MILLER drive semi trucks. Now and then you can hear them as they roar through the streets of Hicksville. The area radio stations are playing a catchy little tune. It is an advertisement for KIM DIETZ ' Beauty Salon. It goes like this: 1 . X ' ' .y. .I Kimmy ' s is the place to go If you want good hair to show. If you don ' t want your hair done here You can stick it in your ear! BRAD KARRIS is Maintenance Engineer at the Hicksville Elementary School. DELTA PASK owns his own personal liquor store while KAREN SCRANTON and DIANE HAUTER work as checkout girls there. GREG LANGHAM and DENNIS GUMP are the best customers. SUE McCann, SUE HELSEL, and SHEILA CULLER fought so hard for women ' s lib that they wound up in the Foreign Legion. BRENT McCORMACK and ROGER AMORE both went into dentistry. The only difference in their work is that Brent charges more. BILL HINSCH does the B.C, Comic Strip for the Defiance Crescent. TOM HAASE went into Construction work. He sits behind a big desk all day and tells RAY MARTINIES and KIRK SAVAGE what to do and where td go .... SHARON FINZER and MARY EVANS are Belly Dancers at the Huber Theater every Saturday night. DAVE COTTRELL has his own church in Hicksville. Every Sunday STAN ROWAN and JOHN SMITH ' volunteer to be his ushers, while RICK SWEET and his Showman play and sing the hymns, t p As Brian ' s car approached Hicksville, a ' sudden quiet had befallen the occupants. They both realized that the great Class of ’73 had Turned out just fine. Some of the kids would never see each other again, but both Brian and Sally knew that the glorious days of ruling the halls of HHS would forever keep these class¬ mates together. Bill Hinsch, considers a new approach to the art work. They Created a Book Sally Stickney works diligently on the yearbook. Just try to put a 178 page book together with a handful of people, in nine months. It’s not easy. And it never would have gotten done without the endurance shown by a few choice staff members, at times when it seemed none of the work was worth anything. I am very fortunate to have gotten the chance to work with these people and have had the experience of putting together this 1973 Hixonian. I ' d like to thank the administration, faculty, and students for putting up with us and our mistakes all year. Also, thank you Sandy, Mitzi, Tom, Marsha, Roger, Karen, Deb - the staff, Bill - our great artist, Mr. Martin - our advisor, and especially Brenda and Sally - who are a couple of choice people that gave this book life. Janet Kirby, Editor - 1973 Mitzi Gloor relaxes. 176 Endurance is shown by the work of Brenda Phillips. Deb Bergman is number one in the ads department. The yearbook ' s ace photographer, Roger Ferguson. f ' ' Marsha Kimmel and Deb Bergman con¬ verse with Mr. Martin. Brenda Phillips and Sally Stickney don ' t need to hide their work. Assistant Editor, Karen Scranton, and Editor, Janet Kirby, take time off. ' 73 Hixonian sends Advisor Martin to the grave.
