Alan Rohrs shows Karl May the various types of terrain in Ohio while Ellen Longsworth checks in her book to see if he is right. This is just one of the many interesting studies made in the Ohio History. An investigation of people, their culture, habits, occupations, and beliefs make up the social study courses. History links our past and present government showing us how the laws change with the changing world. Loretta Morrison points out to Tom Gordon and Dick Gordon where the History Links Past Four American Government students take time to read the Constitution in its original form. Sharon Bassett, Duane Blalock, and Dennis Hammond are impressed by the words of our forefathers. Judy Hofner is examining the many signatures at the bot¬ tom of this document. 14

Mathematics and Science Basic math courses such as arith¬ metic, Algebra I, and geometry pre¬ pare the student for everyday living. Advance math courses — Algebra II, solid geometry, and trigonometry—are offered for those who plan to enter college. Everyone is required to study general science and biology. Courses in chemistry and physics are offered for those who plan to further their education. In laboratory work, basic chemistry is learned by experi¬ menting with chemicals and their reactions with each other. Mary Sindel, Brian Rohrs, and Candy Overmyer proceed with an experiment. Biology students acquire a general knowledge of the work¬ ings of nature. Sally Carr and Jane Beck are examining instruments used by the students in this class. Larry Mc¬ Curdy points out to Norman Grover the parts of a tree trunk on the plastic model. General Science is a required course for all eighth graders. John Doeden shows a graduated cylinder to Marvin Edwards.

A general understanding and ap¬ preciation for humanity is gained by studying social science, thus mistakes of the past can be avoided in the future. Citizen responsibilities are emphasized throughout all courses. Black Sea is located on a map in geography class. Television instruction was used this year for the first time. Airplanes flying at 20,000 feet beam the educational telecasts over channels 72 and 76 to classrooms within a radius of 200 miles. These students are waiting for their class to begin in American History. and Present Mr. Arnett, the newest member of our teaching staff, relaxes a few minutes be¬ tween classes. After a U. S. History and an American Government class, he needs rest. Mr. Schneider leafs through a cur¬ rent magazine looking for colorful pic¬ tures of world events in which his World History group might be interested. Mr. Simpson, along with his basketball duties, teaches drivers’ training, personal prob¬ lems, and geography. He seems to have everything under control now.
