Education Stresses Mike Headley explains to Sue Laub and Darlene Slattery the procedure for solving a problem with more than one unknown. Algebra II students learn to master this type of problem with ease. Today’s education places emphasis on the training of young people for further development in the fields of mathema¬ tics and science. The majority of col¬ leges require a good foundation in these vital courses, and this knowledge must be acquired in high school. Subjects are also available to meet the students’ everyday needs. Sue Bleck exhibits for Jim Massie and Larry Payton the proper way to solve a problem with mixed fractions. “Here’s to education!” says Mr. Bed- dow, physical education instructor, football coach, and general science teacher. Mr. Row, assistant football coach, grins as he thinks about his next math class. Mr. Murphy, who concentrates on biology and science, is also Senior Class Advisor. Chemis¬ try lab wouldn’t be the same without Mr. Wahl. He also teaches the high¬ er math classes which consist of trig¬ onometry and solid geometry. Mr. Fast, coaches the Jr. High basketball team. The subjects he teaches are math, general business, Algebra I, and Algebra II.

Mathematics and Science Basic math courses such as arith¬ metic, Algebra I, and geometry pre¬ pare the student for everyday living. Advance math courses — Algebra II, solid geometry, and trigonometry—are offered for those who plan to enter college. Everyone is required to study general science and biology. Courses in chemistry and physics are offered for those who plan to further their education. In laboratory work, basic chemistry is learned by experi¬ menting with chemicals and their reactions with each other. Mary Sindel, Brian Rohrs, and Candy Overmyer proceed with an experiment. Biology students acquire a general knowledge of the work¬ ings of nature. Sally Carr and Jane Beck are examining instruments used by the students in this class. Larry Mc¬ Curdy points out to Norman Grover the parts of a tree trunk on the plastic model. General Science is a required course for all eighth graders. John Doeden shows a graduated cylinder to Marvin Edwards.
