• Bette, put that snowball down. A motley crew of Santa and friends Tim with the special children Mike Smith gets a real big hug This year’s High School of the Year project got off the ground under the leadership of the chairman Bette Hoch- brueckner and Colleen Ober. It consisted of three Santa Clauses and a whole group of Santa’s helpers who brought some holiday cheer to the elementary schools in our district. Equipped with guitars, snacks, and smiles, high school students helped to make holiday parties in almost every Hicksville kindergarten class. They played games and sang songs such as The Inky Dinky Spider’’ and Jingle Bells . Just when everyone thought the fun was over, they were surprised by a guest appearance by Santa. Although the children were a bit skeptical when they saw Tim Myers’ west- ern boots, none of them hesitated to take a turn on his lap. Hours of planning went into High School of the Year. How- ever, the immense appreciation from the classes and their happiness well repaid the students’ efforts. 25

SENIOR CELEBRITY NIGHT These glasses will sure come in handy. Senior Celebrity Night turned out to be an entertaining and enjoyable event. An active display of class spirit, added to the slide presentations of Hicksville and Hicksville sports, was one of the eve ning’s highlights. Engraved trophies were given out along with hysterical gag gifts. The awards were presented by many active members of the Senior Class. Entertain- ment was provided by several talented singers. The audience’s reaction proved that Senior Celebrity Night was a suc- cess. 26 I'd like to thank you all personally. I'm planning to enter the Indmapolis 500.”
