Mr. Raymond Rusch On changing HHS: Over the past ten years Hicks- ville High School has been develop- ing a program of studies to meet the needs of different kinds of young people. Iob opportunities and skills needed have changed and I believe the school which reflects the times has changed also. More vocational and business courses are available as well as programs di- rected to needs of certain groups of students, Another important change has been the wide variety of extra-curricular activities devel- oped over the past decade. An edu- cational system must reflect tthe times in which it exists . . . Speaking Out I On the rewards of administration: The rewards of administration are often obscure and difficult to measure. They are not always im- mediately realized. just as a farmer must toil long and hard before his crop is harvested, so must the ef- forts of the administrator be ex- pended before the finished product is visible. The graduating senior, the young adult setting out in life the hope of the future, are all the fruits of his labors . . . On the role of the administrator: My position as administrator is most satisfying when I see students entering the school system in the Kindergarten and watch them de- velop into well-poised young ladies and men - at the Senior Ball and later at Commencement. Well- spoken, well-poised, well-educated young ladies and gentlemen means that we have succeeded in our pri- mary task of fitting young Ameri- cans into the scheme of American society. . , ' ' X I in ..,... Q., A Dr. Ierome Niosi On greater student voice: Policy making should be a Mr. Iames Iones Mr. William Peigin On communication: There is a great need for improved communication between students and admin- istrators. No one method will achieve perfect understanding but it is incumbent upon each to listen to what the other is attempting to say. Words and emotion often block attempts at understanding. An open, honest approach to listening would provide the best ave- nue to communication. Mr. Chester Iaworski -W cooperative venture. Howev- er, as long as the parents are paying the taxes, any request made by the students should have parental approval. In this day and age, I would rec- ommend that students accept the proper responsibility for any of their policy sugges- tions that are implemented. On students: . Aside from dress and a greater awareness of the world in which they live, stu- dents have not really changed, Students ten years ago had the same basic teen-age prob- lems, similar hopes and aspi- rations. The adjustment for all students to the adult world occurs when they realize that the rights they enjoy have corresponding responsibili- ties. Mr. Lawrence Olvany
