A 25 YEAR SAIL ON THE SEA OF SUCCESS 1915 1917 1919 1923 1924 1925 1926 1927 1928 1929 1930 1933 1935 1936 1939 1940 Name of Ship: Hicksville High School Dock: Hicksville, New Yor ? Log: We leave the home harbor to gain access to greater lands. Brilliancy of the sun is expected to shine eternally. Class of ’17 begi is Hicksville Scholarship Fund. We go ashore on an educa ional tour. Class of 1919 goes on the first Washington trip. Rooming houses, budgeted meals, no buses -sore feet. Sailors learn writing as THE COMET begins. When the expense be- comes too great for outside printing, the magazine is mimeographed. Reporters and editors alike go around and around the table making over 150 copies. Gobs become musical as the musical department is added. They be- come commercially minded. With five typewriters, and two saw horses, and three boards, the commercial department commences. We set sail into larger waters as the ground is broken for our present building. From here we are to cross great depths Craft changes hands. Mr. Van S yke becomes superintendent of schools. Captain is changed. Miss Parley becomes principal. Athletes preside. The first basketball and baseball teams are organized To emphasize the liner things of life, the home economics department is begun. From brig to beam we are athletes. Th- first football team is organized. We become champions ! Our baseball team becomes the champions of Long Island. The track team is organized. A cafeteria is crowded into the one room home economics department. In football we are the North Shore Champs Canvas is let out. We are gaining speed. The new wing is built which includes the auditorium, the library, and the shops. Appetites increase. The cafeteria is also added. We sight Africa! Class of 30, using shop tools, organize one of the great- est circuses of all time. Oh, if the class a decade later could have seen Howard Darling (the hind-legs of the elephant) Everett Lehman, Charles Stoltz, Theodore Aubertel, and the other circus enthusiasts perform ! Coming upon a sunken vessel, we salvage much booty. Tuesday Bank- Days commence as the Thrift Service Incorporation is installed. Knowledge falls upon us as National Honor Society Charter is granted to Hicksville High. Over the waves we go. Ihe high school band is organized. Craft again changes hands. Mr. LeBarron becomes superintendent. Cen tennial celebration pictures our town as it was in 1836. Twelve episodes are given-Quaker wedding included. Officers steer new courses. New York University establishes center at Hicksville High School. Land Ho! We put in port to give an account of the sail, and to lay in supplies for another sail in the future.
