TO THE CLASS OF 1939 The friendly spirit, the genial good will, good fellowship and high ideals thit have existed among the Class of 39, have been a soruce of inspiration to those of us who have been privileged to work with you for the past four years. It is gratifying to know that the members of the Class of 39 are aware that intellectual ability is more fruit- ful only when it is associated with reliability of character and willingness to cooperate. The work of Hicksviile High School will continue to be exemplified in the lives of the young men and women it sends out. Success and happiness in life come most often to those peisons who can adjust themselves to circumstances or have the power to rise above them. You stand on a pinnacle of possibility, and your future will be largely what you make it. In Our World of Toinoi row, we shall contin- ue to need men and women of vision, strong character and perseverance to solve the in- numerable difficulties that face us through the years. We cannot afford to lose our high ideals. We need them in Our World of To- morrow as much as we needed them in Our World of Yesterday. Only men and women with courage and valor, bound by a common faith in man, can make Our World of To- morrow what we want it to be. Mabel R. Farley, Principal TRADITIONS AND PERSONALITY Schools like people have personality. The personality of your school is what you make it and it can be easily recognized by those who visit it. A school has traditions and the older they are the stronger its personality. It takes years of service on the part of many to es- tablish worthwhile traditions It can be ac- complished only through the untiring and unselfish efforts of students, teachers, par- ents, the Principal, the Superintendent, Board of Education, staff and friends. Hicksviile High School has traditions, and it has been my pleasant privilege during three years as your Superintendent to observe them time and again. 1 have found them in the classroom; out of the classroom; in the community and often in other communities. Our village has frequently identified itseli through its fcchool traditions and no doubt has been responsible, in part at least, for people coming here to live. Our present and former students can well be proud of these facts. If you would keep these traditions, it is your duty to carry on as all those have done Wiio have entered the halls of learning of Hicksviile High School and have later gone forth to serve. The tradition of Hicksviile High are really its personality and are symbol- ical of those things which have been done there through the efforts of many people. Traditions like influence can be either good or bad and if we would keep them worthwhile, it is the responsibility of each and every one whether a graduate or not to give of his best at all times. This inclu ies loyalty, co- operation, honesty, truth and service. May the traditions of Hicksviile High School live long and to the honor of its students, graduates, friends and the community. E.h. LeBarron, Superintendent
